C&V Strava

I ride C&V as well as a modern carbon bike but I always use Strava. I like the data, seeing how I stack up against myself as well as against others. Anyone else running Strava?

I have seen I am ever so slightly faster on my modern bike if I am sprinting because of the 13-12-11 gears that I can access. Otherwise on a long sustained ride it is mostly the wind that dictates my speed.

I've created a club if you'd like to join. The C&V club is called Classic and Vintage Bicycle Club, of course not limited to any one website or subgroup. Invite anyone you think would appreciate it:

I would join.

Sounds like a great idea

I would be in for strava. Use it all the time with the local bike club.

Many here use ridewithgps and there is a c&v group there. (Maybe 10 or so people)

I cant find the link now but look in the monthly mileage thread maybe around a year back.

I link the garmin to strava and ridewithgps and are updated automatically with https://tapiriik.com/

Grand idea - I'd be happy to join. Info on setting up a Strava club - https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/...-Strava#create

I've added the club. Feel free to join.

12 people already. Very good start.

non-fixie 06-05-18 01:19 PM

Make that 13.

noglider 06-05-18 01:33 PM

I joined, but I rarely use strava. I'm loyal to ridewithgps. I don't suppose there's a way to sync them, is there?

mgopack42 06-05-18 01:40 PM

I joined.
my Garmin automatically updates Strava. is there a way to only show the once a week classic ride data? I ride the Ciocc every Tuesday evening, but the CF bike the rest of the times.

I'm in... my name is close to "virgin futon".

The Golden Boy 06-05-18 01:50 PM

Shouldn't it be called "Narhay's Classic and Vintage Bicycle Club?"

:D

I'm in. I ride my modern bike more than my vintage one, but my last 2 rides were on my old Peugeot.

I'm onboard, and also on BF 50+. Guess I should start uploading again.

Not spending anywhere near as much riding these days as I should, but maybe this would provide motivation to get back on the bike.

Try this

https://tapiriik.com/

I use it to sync from garmin to strava and rwgps

works seamlessly

I use Map My Ride as well as Strava, and have them both running simultaneously as I find Strava cuts out occasionally. When that happens I export the activity from MMR and import it into Strava. I don't use Ride With GPS, but is it possible to run it with another app?

Incidentally, very occasionally Strava and MMR both fail - I've found when that happens Google Timeline still records an activity.

And one other incidentally - running two apps often shows distance variation between the two, sometimes up to half a mile.

Yes, someone is evidently paying attention. :)

I have the App. Use it periodically. I am cautious about the start locations. I make them random and away a bit from actual start /end. I understand now that there is an auto randomizer.
I use it to document a ride for reference.
Problem with it is there is a subtle urge to "get that KOM", or top time for a "segment". I see too many Strava Slaves running signals, stop signs, very easy to fall into that.
Absolutely no social usage.

Ex Pres 06-05-18 03:41 PM

I'm not allowed to be on Strava. I've tried to sign up, and it tells me to check and verify my e-mail. So I pull up the e-mail, click the verify link, and when I'm back on the Strava page it sends me back into the same loop to verify my e-mail when I try to sign in. I've tried signing in from different computers - it sends me back into the same verify e-mail loop [that I can't escape].

Even Strava doesn't want my slow-ass rides :)

I have just as much fun trying to load ridewGPS files onto my Garmin. I drag 'em in to the folder, save into the folder, whatever, they're never there. Tech headaches are why I can't operate a smart phone, either. It's a good thing I'm getting old and won't have to live long with[out] this stuff.
