Beautiful in the Hoosier National Forest for sure. But as someone from Northern Indiana, I'd say a couple of those climbs are tough. I definitely had to push the bike up one hill, but I was not alone by any stretch. I would have loved to do the 60-mile, but I was not strong enough to climb 3,000+ ft. in 2016.

The Standard Deluxe Dirt Road Century? I am hoping they have it again this year, and that the weather is as nice as it was last year. You have lots of pics of areas I want to explore, thanks for sharing!

Thank you!

That is right in the middle of a 55mi route i figured out which starts in Cumming, goes west, then south to st charles, back east across 35, and returns notth to Cumming.
Ill have to figure up a modified route to hit this road up.

Finally got my internet back so I can share some pics. These are all around Antofagasta, a coast city in the north of Chile. Lots of gravel roads around, haven't been around them all as there is some serious climbing involved in most of them.

I have no idea if they have a particular name in English but those are pools to contain and redirect landslides. Where I live it's a desert terrain but sometimes (every 10 years or so) we get an unusual amount of precipitation which back in 1991 caused a series of landslides that severely affected the city. The pools were built a few years later in the major ravines around the city to prevent this from happening again.

An interesting thread, thanks.

Here in SW Ohio, there's essentially zero gravel roads. Even the lane-and-a-half farm roads are paved.

New York State
I rode part of this route in New York State last summer, found on a "riding the Catskills" blog. The route was tagged "Worth the Trip". Yes, it was.

The gravel roads were all nicely maintained and graded. A nice mix of woods and farmland. Some steep hills along the way.

Here's the blog post with a map and photos: Meridale 43

A couple of snapshots from my ride:
Old rock fences in the woods.

Thank you. Not something you see here in Florida. We have to build up the land to keep the swamps out. (no gravel roads around here either)

@kuroba, that blue/red fade jersey is awesome.

kuroba 02-24-17 08:36 AM

@TimothyH Thanks! I love how obnoxiously bright it is. It's DHB Blok Micro jersey for women from 2015, I think. I had to stalk eBay for months to get one in my size, as for some reason Wiggle's "international" shipping doesn't include my country.

It's about an hour north of Vancouver. A long way from the bugaboos though :)
