Puget Sound - Fall C&V bike ride???

Update: Ride Info weekend of Sept 28 + 29.
Sunday = meet in Redmond at Marymoor Park Velodrome for a 10:30 roll-out.
Arrive at 10:00 - 10:15 so we can compliment your ride for a bit.
Either around Lake Samm (counter-clockwise).
OR, if very wet (but not raining) then maybe East Lake Samm Rd to Issaquah and return same way, or on Trail.

Sat 28th - We did a ride on the 21st and weather is very questionable for Sat 28th AM.
No scheduled ride Sat, but maybe an update later.

As long as it's dry and on a weekend, I'd be up for any of those routes.

Should say, ditto. But I'm further restricted to Sundays only.

4 probables so quickly is encouraging.

Dry seems to be important - accuweather says Sept 21/22 and 28/29 are both Dry Weekends with preceding dry Fridays.

Location seems 2ndary - so let's wait for some more folks to Reply.

A route with options to accommodate the preferences of the greatest number of riders is = Ideal.
3 speeders, 10 speeders, mileage folks, etc.


A starting point @ Marymoor Park, Redmond offers:
1. Around Lake Sammamish
2. Around Marymoor Park and the crowded (but friendly, if slower) Sammamish River Trail
3. West Lake Sammamish Road to Issaquah & return = a sunny ride if there's any Sun.
4. West Lake Sammamish Trail to Issaquah & return = Paved and Gravel with driveway crossings, but off the busier road.
5. After ride Beer close to the Park - at W Lk Samm entrance side -- it's still there, right?

A starting point in Buckley offers:
1. Foothills Trail = gentle for all
2. Hardman/mileage option into MRNP Carbon River Entrance
but.... a drive for all/most

North Bend rides = great!
but..., a drive for all/most

Camano Island = a good little challenge for this sort of ride.
but..., a drive for most.

Cedar River Trail - Renton
Straight and muchly adjacent to Maple Valley Hwy.
but..., centrally located and easy ride for all. Paved smooth trail

How about you farther North and South Puget Sounders?

How do we get you folks involved?

This would be fun! Unfortunately I'm moving back to Olympia so will be tied up for most of September.

I’m in for 21/22 or 29, out on 28.

I can also promise to once again be slow, having not been able to put in the miles I’d like this year.

I am out of town the 21/22 but the 28/29 could work. Is there an old fat slow and out of shape division?

Try being currently part of the younger, no-endurance, four-mile-max-because-of-knee-area-injury/recovery group! :lol: Sounds super fun, and if the weather was dry and the route totally flat, I'd run my new Allez SE. Will have to pass until I can do more than four or five miles without issue... ugh.

That's a helluva hill where you live in that condition. Even with good knees, I need a tow rope.

It is and they (the other billion steep hills) are! Thankfully my personal hill up to my place can be cut into bite-sized chunks of slightly-less-steep. I'm glad I have one triple in my fleet. That 26-28T super low combo really helps when it counts. :)

OK - I will keep a little chart with requests.
Maybe a good plan would be 2 rides - one on each weekend.

Doubles the chance of a dry date.
2 different locations might be a draw.
After all - 2 rides on 2 weekends in dry weather is not a stretch for me.

Soliciting specific requests for dates and routes.
nothing nicer than a ride with locals and especially with lots of lugged steel and other classics.

I got Buckley on 21/22 for @recovery, but which route? Trail? Into Carbon River?

I'm up for any of the Foothills trail. I have seen that the newest bridge has been closed due to damage from a tree falling. South Prairie to Puyallup is good to go, but Buckley to South Prairie is cut off.

Apart from this ride (or in addition to it, maybe - the next or previous day?) I'm interested in riding up to the Monte Cristo mining ghost town near Granite Falls if anyone wants to join me for that. PM me.

What kinda bike/tire size is needed for that one? Oh, and gearing, too.

You mean the bridge right after South Prairie trailhead to the east? If it's that one, that's a quick bypass on the road and back to the trail within 1/4 mile.

Well, either Sunday (but not both) as mentioned above.

As for where? I don't know. The past 2000 miles have been pure commuting miles for me (mostly along the BG Trail). This would be my first C&V event/group ride/just for the fun of it ride of any kind for me.

A co-worker recommended the Mercer Island loop from the UW as a nice ride...could easily meet and park at the UW (parking is free on campus on Sundays). But anything sounds good to me, honestly.

I like the sound of something in the Marymoor area, the 20 mile loop ride is probably going to be the limit of my endurance currently and that assumes I get some rides in between now and the 28/29 You mentioned the loop ride an out and back from Marymoor to Issaquah on the trail/East lake samm blvd or Marymoor along the Samm river trail etc those all sound fine to me with 20 miles being my limit currently. If more folks can go on the 21st that is fine I can just catch ya next tiime

A few years ago on the Lake Sammamish trail near Sammamish landing

Out of shape, and started cycling again after having cycled in an area with literally no hills, so I'm probably not in the best shape for hardman stuff, but I'm game- it'd have to be a location with relatively easy cycling access from Seattle properly, or reliable transit (i.e. Cedar River would be fine, since there's a bus to Renton, and iirc it's not hard to get to from the RV anyway- same with eastside trails starting in Redmond, etc.) The Foothills Trail seems lovely but I think the bus to Puyallup is hourly on weekends - doable but not ideal.

Any Saturday works. I work Sundays, unfortunately.

Re: the Monte Cristo ghost town trail - The BQ guys I first heard about it from did it on their randoneuse bikes with ~35mm tires, but since you STILL don't have any such bike in your stable (tut-tut), for you it'd have to be the MTB you got from Scozim a few years back. Nothing wrong with that.
