Too soon? GMR to Village with some Unlikely Cyclists - Sunday April 27, 2014

I realize this may be WAY too soon for PJ or TH to be allowed to ride GMR by their wives but Lisa and I want to ride to village while still nice and somewhat green up on the mountain.

So, your new job is as a divorce lawyer? :roflmao2:

I'm a doubtful. I have a project I'm doing that will probably take every weekend in April. Being the last weekend of the month, if it goes well before that, I'd bump myself to a "maybe".

TrojanHorse 03-28-14 11:10 AM

I may not be able to make it for previous commitment reasons, not wife-will-hate-me reasons... daughter has a soccer double header at noon and my son has his final pinewood derby of his scouting career ever at 2:30. Odds are good we'll be putting the finishing touches on the cars that morning.

We got skunked last year after a long winning streak so it's prep time!

Beachgrad05 03-28-14 11:18 AM

Understood. Last year whenever Lisa and I tried to arrange a ride up GMR to Village...the weather conspired against us. Hot, Storms etc. I'm bummed about missing going to the village last weekend.

I do have education in marriage counseling. LOL

Certainly don't want to cause a problem with the Mrs.

Can I join in?

I'm an authentic Clyde (6'6" and 240) and spend most of my time riding around my home town of Thousand Oaks and in the Malibu mountains. Always wanted (for some sick reason) to try GMR...

Heck yeah you can! Using the PJ method: Anyone who even remotely expresses interest will be marked down as IN!

TrojanHorse 03-28-14 11:36 AM

Woo hoo new blood!

And somebody big enough to draft behind!

Welcome to bikeforums & our own little corner of this place.

Ursa Minor 03-28-14 12:03 PM

I'd like to go but I live so far away = Santa Barbara. Put me down as tentative :)

Charlie

HunkerDown 03-28-14 12:26 PM

Where's the rendezvous point?

Beachgrad05 03-28-14 12:38 PM

Will post in original post but here is where: Neighborhood off Glendora Mountain Road at Boulder Springs. We typically park just past Dalton Springs

Count me in as a definite maybe. I'm not sure how far up I'll make it considering the lack of conditioning I've had lately. But I will at least try and be there for the start.

Oh sure, you show up to the ride put on by BG with the women's team showing up. The ride I put together......nothin'!!!! It's OK, we talked about you the whole ride. Something about it being uphill all the way to the bottom! :roflmao2:

Busted! Hey do you blame me?

I tried to make it to your ride, I really did. But we had just got back from watching spring training in Arizona, and boy were my arms tired.

Not one bit. But a word of warning, you'll see the ULC team for about.............that long, and they'll be gone. The next time you see them will be as they're waiting for everyone else at the shack!

Yah......when did you get a hand-cycle? Last I saw, you use your legs to pedal! Now, if you didn't make it because of some strange and unexplained dry mouth, headache, light sensitivity, etc., then that's a whole different story! :roflmao2:

I guess you guys (and gals) are not going to do the TdC in Long Beach this year?

Hunker Down, you and Ursa Minor are on my neck of the woods. We should organize a local ride that would also include some climbing.

And Alpacas.

Is there any danger of the conejo selling out? I'm still trying to work on my son and wife to do one of the shorter routes but I fully intend to sign up.

And maybe Mugu Rock. :D

TH, I have never heard of the Conejo ride selling out. The way the ride is set up they usually take all the people that sign up.

Just no Rock Store, please.

I'm out this year too.

But you set up a Alpaca ride I will try my darndest to be there.

HunkerDown 03-28-14 04:36 PM

Hi eja and Ursa:

I live in TO near Flores and Montgomery. On Thursday mornings I try to pry my butt out of bed for 15-20 miles around my neighborhood soon as it gets light out. Would be great to have some company.

I also do the CVC Tuesday night Rock Store loops and on Saturdays I alternate between the CVC and Serious Cycling rides. Sundays are either a slow ride with my wife - a half-hearted cyclist - or with the CVC group.

If you haven't ridden with either the CVC or Serious groups I'd love to introduce you. The CVC folks in particular are real climbers; the Serious rides are a mixed bag.

Give me a buzz and we'll figure out a time to get together for a ride.

PJ and BG. If you sign up for the Cruisin' the Conejo moderate metric century (they ought to be sued for false advertising, moderate my butt!...but I digress) you will ride past the Alpaca Ranch (pause to take pics, they are really adorable). But before reaching the alpacas, you will ride on Potrero Road through some of the most expensive RE in So. Cal., past Sherwood CC (you golfers know all about it), past where Sofia Loren had a home and where Tom Selleck still has one. Then you will descend down Potrero Road past a former mental hospital, now the site of Cal State Channel Islands. (What's the difference between a mental hospital and a state college? None, both are full of nuts.)

Then the ride heads into Camarillo and Somis to the alpacas and up to Horse Hill. From there is an easy ride back to the starting point. You will go past AMGEN (be sure to get your free EPO samples) and on to the finish line.

Easy peasy :D

I hope you can all make it.

Ursa Minor 03-28-14 06:01 PM

thanks for the invite but I'm old slow and fat... I almost didn't say I would try GMR because I'm really very shy.

Charlie
