If you dont like the unicrown fork scrod told me in the past he can sell the carbon fork for the pake french separately although that will be a little over your budget.

True. I just can't imagine doing a budget build with steel unless you're a fan of riding a heavy ass bike that feels like a tank. I've had 5 steel bikes and all of them were a bummer to ride compared to even a low end aluminum build.

They seem to make fairly good quality components. Frames are made in Taiwan apposed to China and I was very impressed with the quality of the 250g seatpost I'm using from them that was only $30. And personally I think their copper frame looks really nice. Of couse for a similar price you can build a Rum Runner which now uses butted tubes

after riding aluminum, i loathe steel. sure it rides smooth but most of the steel bikes i've owned were insanely heavy compared to my leader.
If I had 800ish to drop on a good steel frameset with a carbon fork, maybe it'd be okay. It's all personal preference.

I've heard I could get an Aventon frame with a carbon fork for close to 300 and that would be the best quality for the money.

I wasn't saying you can't build a nice ass steel bike. I just don't think you can build a light one on a small budget. (Not a weight weenie but lugging around a 25 pound bike sucks if you ride a lot of miles)

It's not. You "hear" a lot of stuff.

Go do some squats. I love when people automatically assume that an aluminum frame will be 10x lighter than a quality steel frame.
Last I checked, the budget Kilo tt doesn't weigh 25 pounds.
