Pass

edit: another reason to keep your non-aero vintage away from many bike shops. :roflmao2:

SurferRosa 04-18-20 01:01 PM

Just raise the stem two feet, and they'll be perfect.

Wildwood 04-18-20 01:06 PM

and with shorty fenders = cat's pajamas.

CMAW 04-18-20 01:14 PM

It's not just length, it's length of yellow.

memory lane -

at the height of the bicycle boom in the early 1970's Playboy magazine did a feature on cycling which included studio portraits of several top end road machines. there was one which have always recalled for its big loops. it was something Brit such as a Jack Bobson, Condor or Geoffrey Butler. cannot today recall the specific marque or even the colour - can only recall the huge loops...

I think this is why they invented zip ties . . .

CliffordK 04-18-20 01:35 PM

I've bent or otherwise messed up the ends of the cable housings, and slowly whittle them down in length, 1/2" at a time. You should have plenty to cut off little bits at a time for a couple of decades before they become too short and need to be replaced.

Maybe not world class but these are the bikes that I get the most comments and criticisms about their cable housing lengths.

My response: I get better reception that way!

I like the gracile shape of the sweeping arches. (besides, it's too much work to shorten the cables)

Why is the rear derailleur housing perfectly sized and not a foot or two longer to match the brakes? Run out of housing?

Cougrrcj 04-18-20 02:51 PM

You must mean EXCESSIVELY long.

Just about any tandem (or triple, or quad-length) bike has longer housings...

JaccoW 04-18-20 03:29 PM

Where are the tandem folks at?

jetboy 04-18-20 04:45 PM

its only slightly out of line for a holdsworth-

Someone needs to get some clothespins; it’s laundry day!

No, not mine. That one is listed on ebay.

I just thought it looked ridiculous, especially on a nice vintage bike.

I think I'm leading...
And mind you there are two cables from the shifter to the rear derailleur and one of equal length on the other side leading to the rear brake!

I thought the idea was to snag low-flying birds; bring home dinner at the end of your ride. :)

degan 04-18-20 09:07 PM

Placeholder for when my tandem with bar-end shifters is done.
