Cycling Jekyll Island

My wife and I headed north to Jekyll Island from north central FL, less then 3 hours by car. The island is only about 7 miles long, but nice biking along the loop that runs around the perimeter. The bike path is only worthwhile if going very slow, but is definitely beautiful along the central shore area. Speed limits are mostly 25 for cars; you’re more likely to get passed by one of those fancy golf carts (barely).

Completed one loop last night before the storms threatened, and two this AM. About 17 miles each loop.

Got pics? Are you going to post in the SE subforum for the Southerners who aren't 50+ yet?

Is there any place to "Hyde" on Jekyll Island?

Sorry ... couldn't resist. :D

Will post pics tomorrow. As far as places to Hyde, I’d say plenty on the south end of the isle. Virtually no development of any sort, a real nature treat. But IMO the prettiest part is the half loop north of Rt. 520.

This is the view looking east towards the ocean (from the room we stayed in). The bike path winds left to right along the dunes in this section.

Also enjoy cycling on Jekyl island, my mother lived there a few years after retirement. Do not like the bridge to Brunswick, St Simons island is less laid back. Used a Townie d7 with big apple tires, could easily ride around with a single speed or three speed hub.
