At Work Bike Stuff
 

Not talking about clothes and personal wash up items ....

I'm looking to keep extra "things" at work to support my bike. I can keep these items either near my bike in my office. Just going through what I am considering. Would love your input.

- Full bike pump (I have an extra)
- A few extra innertubes
- Bike wipe down rags
- Chain lube
- Recharge cables for rechargeable lights
- Batteries for rear blinkie

Maybe a small toolkit to make things easier than using the smaller one I carry on the bike?

If you store your bike inside the office, the "Feedback Rakk Storage Stand" has been a great addition to my commuting gear

Interesting, I may consider that! Currently I'm going to put it under a stairwell but even then I want it to be there in a tidy and careful manner. Thanks for the point on that.

plastic tote you keep in your office...? holds all your items stays some what clean / covered and your bike can stay under the stairs.

Good thinking. Would stop me from just having a bunch of things laying about or tossed in a drawer.

Right, but if you use innertubes on the road it may be nice to restock while at work for the ride home. I will say I've never carried chain lube on the road, though.

At the office I keep a floor pump, chain lube, toiletries and office shoes plus emergency socks and underwear. We already have some general tools and rags.

Mini tool, or at least a set of metric hex wrenches.

Extra pair of socks and undies.

Set of hex wrenches, flat and phillips screw driver, spare tire (doesn't even have to be an expensive one.) Anyone else you work with ride? We built a small tool box with a couple tubes, tire, chain, brake and derailleur cable, and basic tools when a several of us were commuting. Everything fit in a plastic box inside a file drawer.

So far I think I'm the only one. I'm trying to figure out how to find out if there is interest from anybody else but so far I'm not sure how. I don't want to send an email to "All". I'm looking to see who, if anybody, heads up a health and wellness position.

Whoever handles your HR will probably be the person in charge of any health/wellness initiatives. At the very least they would know who is.

My items are pretty similar, and like @mcours2006, most are on the bike anyways, The floor pump is convenient to have at work (and one at home). I can keep my bike indoors in the same place (see photo; note floor fan for drying clothes).

My usual, excellent bike shop is one block from home, and I have convenient Commuter Rail permitting me to easily bring my bike home for serious problems. I also have a bike shop about two blocks away from work for emergencies, and a premier shop about two miles from work, where I recently went for a bike fitting.

Got tools and an air compressor at work. The bike is in a corner of a storage room.

Good thinking but we don't have HR. Otherwise, smart thing to do.

If you're not big enough to have HR, you likely don't have any wellness initiatives.

If you are big enough to have an HR, someone is performing that role. They have to. Someone is doing payroll and handling benefits.

I've got a charger at work with interchangeable micro and mini USB tips. I got it for my phone; it's also useful for USB-chargeable things.


The rest of your list, if I need it, it goes in a pannier or saddle pouch. It's not at work unless my bike is!

Talk to your local HR or health services, if you have one.

We have 600 locations (stores) but how we are structured doesn't make it vital we have an HR. I did find a place on our internal site were people have started "clubs" and I'll look to see if one is close and contact them, or start my own.

Come to think of it I think we have an electric compressor at work as well. I'd just need a presta adapter.

:lol: Right. I missed that one. I don't have chain lube on me, but I do have a couple of bottles at work. They get used a lot during the winter months.

I do have the pump and the charge cable. The rest is stuff I'm already carrying or don't need urgently.

I also keep stuff like prescriptions, ibuprofen and sudafed and Tums, shaver, toothbrush

I've got about half my wardrobe at work. Once in a while the whole lot of them come home. We also have a washing and dryer at work so I've done that a well.

Where I commute (the north east), weather can change fast. Not sure about Ohio. So, you might consider keeping some foul weather gear at work, like rain jacket, gloves etc.

At work; I keep undies and socks. One too many times of forgetting either of those. I can get to my desk if I forget and get them. I used to have a spare floor pump at work but changed buildings and left it behind for a friend who commutes.


On my bike I carry; multi tool, smaller pump, gloves, tire levers and tube. I have thought about carrying a headlamp in case I need to change a tire in the dark but have never put it in the bag. I used to have all that in a tennis tube in a second water bottle holder, but when I put the pump on I took if off and it just sits in the bottom of one pannier. I wish I could get the pump mount and the water bottle cage to play nicely together. (in my opinion that would be ideal)
