peeps in this thread say Avenir was another brand of WSI: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114456

would make sense.. though the early 1990s diamondbacks suffer from brand overload.. Diamondback, Centurion AND Avenir all on on the same bike

think they had Tioga at one time too. I believe th 'brand overload' was why the Centurion road bikes were absorbed into the DB fold.

every company tried to have their bike brand and solid accesory line as well.

Here are my two remaining ones:
My oldest is the Ironman Carbon (thanks to Robbietunes):

My newest addition is:

It is the seller's picture. I had the stem replaced to reduce the reach.
Both great bikes.
I had 4 others that I managed to trade to folks here that were smaller frames.

frantik 09-15-11 09:04 PM

took some new pics of my bike :)

Just an observation, but wow, this picture demonstrates a significant weight distribution difference between the 2 bikes ? Look how much more front wheel/nose heavy # 618 is ? Are both front wheels of the bikes touching the ground, # 618 appears to be, can't tell with # 615 ? Just curious, which of these two bikes handles better or feels like it does ?

Just bought a terry design iron man on ebay! Not for me, but for my girlfriend.

Barchettaman 09-16-11 01:33 AM

Frantik, that lime green machine hurts my eyes, in a good way.

On another note, the bike rack often looks like that by the time I get out of the water....nearly empty.

i think i need to get back in the pool and try a 'sprint' level Tri next season (actually an "aquabike" sounds better.. i hate running :D)

Looks like somethings hanging on the front.

OK, here's my 1988 IRONMAN MASTER.
Since these pics were taken, I've replaced the Selle Turbo saddle with a Specialized Body Geometry. The white looked great, but it was so hard that if you rode over a cigarette butt you could tell what brand it was!

Thanks. I detail the daylights out of every bike I buy, using the same cleaners/polishes/waxes that I use on my car. My motto?....."A Clean Bike Is A Happy Bike".

kiwigem 12-22-11 11:25 PM

Educate me, please, folks. I don't quite understand the role these play in the stable as they are described as triathlon bikes, but they aren't as aggressive as modern tri bikes, correct? What's the spell they have cast over you? I don't say that to imply that I disagree. I just would like to know more as so many people seem to go crazy over them. Thanks!

kiwigem 12-23-11 10:37 PM

Thanks, RT. I think I get it. : )

Ironman bikes don't suck.

In the defense of these beautiful bikes, I must mention that Bobby Downey Jr. was still on his first-strike felony when the decals were applied to these frames...

I bought my Ironman as a frame on Ebay. Although I normally avoid Purple/Pink colors, this frame caught my attention (and the BIN price was great). The frame is slightly too big, but I will make it work. I'm not completely done, but I like my initial progress. I will likely make more changes. I like the Ironman because it is so different from other bikes in my collection. The ride does feel more rigid, but it might simply be my less padded saddle.
