A few days ago I was reading something about the "curse of the 'next' Merckx" moniker being laid on up-and-comers, with a look back at eight non-Merckxs over the decades. It seems the curse of the current X Merckx Spot pick remains nothing to sneeze at, either.

With the hills coming for the last two days, perhaps my team and canam73 's can vault into the top 80% of the field. Hard to know who I would've picked between Ewan vs Welsford.
