Hey all,
Just received my Windsor Hour and wanted to bring this thread up to date a bit. I ordered mine in "apple green" (seems to be a new color based on the dearth of posts mentioning it), and I am loving it. Mine arrived at my door with both a 16 tooth fixed gear cog and a 16 tooth freewheel installed. At first, I was getting some noise while pedaling and feared that it was the bottom bracket, but when I switched over to the fixed cog (it came running the freewheel), the noise was gone. Keep an eye on your pedal crank bolts and rear hub cones - I've had both tightened by my local bike shop (the cranks twice). Thus far, the 48 x 16T fixed gear ratio has been treating me well with average hills and flats - you can really get this thing moving on the flats!

I had the same issue, in fact it's the reason I started riding on the fixed side in the first place. After giving everything a once-over, tightening and re-lubing, it was resolved and has been great since.

Also, posting a more recent pic of my bike because seriously, what was going on with my saddle there?

Just wanted to update with a few pictures. Everything has been holding up well. The bike feels solid and fast.

I'm putting a 52T chainring & a 12T freewheel on mine as soon as they arrive. Eddie Merckx used a52x14 to set his record so I figure a 12T cog should give me all the speed my legs can produce.

TheHour despite it's entry level price and makeup is NOT just another hipster SS by any means. It truly is as Windsor/BD markets it as a "specialty" bike and its geometry and details reflect this fact.

If anyone else has a setup like mine please let me know what your experiences have been flying around at 30+mph! Thanks guys.

Is Bikes Direct referring to Eddie Merckx in their ads bike description?

I think probably Eddie Munster or maybe Eddie Bauer? There is no Eddie Merckx there is an Eddy Merckx who was a famous cyclist who had 525 career victories but he couldn't be farther away from a cheap bikes direct bike that has nothing at all to do with him. Yes Eddy Merckx was in an ad for Windsor bikes but this was Windsor of Mexico nothing related to Bikes Direct in any form or fashion (they only bought a name and have no ties to the original company, the bikes are made in China)

The bike Eddy Merckx rode to hour record victory was a Colnago made by Ernesto Colnago in Italy. I have read rumors that the bike was slapped with some Windsor stickers because they were in Mexico but I haven't seen photographic proof only of it with his name on the downtube which was common for him.

If you are trying to replicate his bike, don't do it not that you will on anything BD but because it was drilled, cut down, missing parts and he was riding tubular wheels, it was a machine purely built to race and win and wouldn't be very durable for street riding. Also his gearing was for the hour record and maybe not as practical for regular riding. I love Eddy a lot but have no real interest in a daily driver built for one race.

I would very much like to see this 12T freewheel that fits on a typical Sw8 Phiksie, not BMX, flip-flop hub like is on your Bikedirect bike...

Fair Dinkum, I guess I never really looked much at the pictures of him riding mostly the video of him doing it from La Course en Tete and he is going at considerable speed and I guess I am so entranced by his riding I never noticed. Rumor is true, still though the bike was built by Ernesto Colnago.

Windsor's The Hour+, regardless of its heritage has a heckuva reputation with proud happy owners like me. I couldn't give sh#@ less who says what. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...08092fdabd.jpg

seau grateau 07-15-19 07:59 PM

Yeah we can tell you don't give a **** by the way you keep bringing it up.

Hr1 07-16-19 12:15 PM

So have a heckuva lotta other people or this thread nor it's parent would have lasted this long w/ a this many posts.

seau grateau 07-16-19 12:29 PM

This thread had been dead for four years before you bumped it, but OK. I'm not even convinced you own a bike tbh.

1. That is a BMX freewheel is it not?
2. That is junk either way
3. Lol at riding on the street with 114 gear inches.

In an effort to save this thread, I present my windsor hour:

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a437eed35a.jpg

Just moved closer to work so I dusted off the old bike and have been cycling to work for the past three months. Bought some nice upgrades along the way. Super happy with it.

j_e_r_e_m_y 07-18-19 02:04 PM

^^^ Nice - probably the classiest looking Hour I've seen, great work!

HourPlus 09-21-19 05:46 AM

Bumping the rebumped Hour+.

I own an Hour+ and it rocks but I am concerned about the wheel size. I though 700c were 28"+? The outside diameter of my wheels is 26"?
