Make sure to secure your wheel straps!

I got distracted last night. In a rush to meet a friend for a quick dirt ride, I didn't latch the straps for the wheels.

Yep. The poor bike tumbled...

Luckily. The damage was limited to cosmetic damage in the Sora 3500 brifters. New caps ordered, new hoods too and bar tape. I was thinking about removing the reach adjustment spacers anyway. Less than $30 to cover up my faux pas...

Still made the ride. Everything works, after turning the bars straight and the brifters back into place... The only serious casualty was the $25 imitation gopro camera. Completely toast. Even cracked the memory card.

Don't get distracted in the rush to ride. Latch the wheel straps, tie them down if you must...

You need a new bike! :D

Don't the rear seats fold down on a Neon?

indyfabz 09-26-19 01:04 PM

Those dinner plate sized disc brake rotors obviously caught a crosswind and caused that. One more reason to avoid disc brakes.

Caps? Hoods? Bar Tape? Seriously? You missed a perfect excus, sorry, opportunity to give the spouse for an upgrade! Broken brifters are a perfect reason to move up to the next group.

Agreed... inside is the safest.

I dig the Baja lights!

The front wheel, & most likely the seat w/t tube would need to come off to stow it in the Neon. Folding the seats down would not benefit the stowing of the bicycle any better. If anything you'd want to leave the seats up & push the ps front seat forward all the way.

They do, but not in a meanigful way for bike transport, especially not a big 29er..

I hate to admit, that I had a small amount of hope they wouldn't work. As I have recently finished a 2006 Cannondale CAAD8, Said wife (see above) needs a few nice things before such an upgrade.

I made a pushbar specifically to mount these 8" 100 watt pencil beam lights...

Let me just say, I am the last Neon you want to "highbeam". ;)

:thumb: :thumb: my used '85 4Runner came with the brush guard, so I had to add lights, also pencil beams. not street legal, but I remember them being useful driving to Maine, late at night, w/ no one else on the roads. off road, at night, they were good too, but that's a whole 'nother story

Oh yeah, whole other story. These will show reflectors and signs 10 miles down a straight road. So definitely not street legal. They are tight enough to be useful in fog, surprisingly not blinding me...

Funny thing. More than once driving through less than great neighborhoods, I've heard people yell "COPS" and run from me... Not a cop... What cop drives a Neon?

Well at least they won't mess with you in those bad neighborhoods.
