Alternative to Wabi wheelset
 

Apologies if something like this was discussed 100500 times but I'm lost. I just trying to fine the simple answer..if there is..

Wabi wheels. 1.8 kg. $190. Like them.
But do not want to buy the second pair to look addicted..

Is there anything out there weighted less 1900g for less than $190?

Probably not. I've done way too much god damned research on light wheelsets. You're out of luck unless you want to go custom.

Actually, I ride the roads where nobody rides steel SS ..but everyone rides CF road bike. (do not know why - it is flat Florida.. one speed is all we need here)

I live right by there and will probably get a wheelset from them. How is yours holding up? I narrowed it down to Wabi or a set from velomine, and after looking at some reviews I'm going with Wabi even if they don't use sapims or DT spokes.

I wanted to order a Wabi wheelset, but then I started seeing articles that mention that wider rims have advantages in the rolling resistance department. Those Jalco rims are quite narrow.

I'm sure the weight of them counter act this.

$190 shipped. They come in, and they're true. And really light. And they look great. And for that price? What a deal.

I haven't really noticed any difference in resistance with them being a little on the narrow side. My grip has actually been feeling a little better this last week, and my wheels overall are spinning better on the road.

Probably seen the same articles myself. Something to do with the theory/fact that it provides a smaller contact patch. Not sure, I seem to remember that the industry tried to push something like this back in 2006/2007.

they were definitely great wheels. did like 50% of all my elevation with those wheels, they were helpful. able to handle my terrible roads, my big ass and looked okay

Yeah I know you had a set. I think even on the same bike I plan on using them for, a Leader 722.

All I need is the wheelset, a stem and mine (purchased during last year's Black Friday) will be ready to go.

earlier in this thread someone once again demonstrated how typically ill-informed they are by stating those rims are a very typical 19mm wide, which is the same width as the majority of the rims usually discussed around this place.

i too did mucho research before buying my wabi wheelset awhile back & can assure you that previous comments that you cannot get lighter pre-built wheels in the same price range are absolutely correct. if you do have to have a different look, are on a limited budget, & don't mind a little weight penalty...

If I had a second bike, I'd have a second set of Wabi wheels.

The value is very good, and they've held up to rough roads very well.

Why no 650c? Wabi even sells the Lightning with 650 wheels but doesn't sell a wheelset alone. *sadface*

I got some Sun M13IIs laced to velocitys. Im not excactly sure on the weight, but my calculations come to approx 1800g. I got them from a popular online wheel retailer (PM for deets) for about $140. The dude that runs the website was really cool about a special request to lace them up with nice butted DT Revolution spokes instead of the usual straight gauge ones...

Anyways, sooper nice wheelset! Not quite as nice as say TB14s or Open pros, but for under $150 they are dam nice.

Just chiming in on the M-13 to formula from velomine. Not sure if this is the norm but mine came with hollow axle's and were sub 1900g. the eyeleted rims were polished to an almost mirror finish, they look damn good, I was really blown away by the quality when I received them.

Maybe contact them? I heard the main guy is really helpful.
