From the air! It's not 100% complete, as you'll see, but the city won a grant of $2 mil. to fill the hole between the Adorni Center and G St. It's all part of the Humboldt Bay Trail, only four years and four miles from completion. I hope I'm still riding by then.

I'm curious as to how they funded a bike path that doesn't meet California's design standards. Seems weird to build like it's 1970 and just ignore what we've learned as well as state law.

Which standards doesn't it meet? Is it the gap? Because they've gotten a grant to fix it.

Seems weirder to complain about what looks like a perfectly serviceable MUP built in a rural CA city. If we insist every bike path be built strictly to code, it'll make it harder to build bike paths. I don't see any branch of it terminating in a brick wall or going off the side of a cliff, so I'll consider that a step up from a lot of MUP design around the country.

From the Youtube comments, it seems to be a pre-existing unpaved trail, that they paved. So thumbs up.

Mind you, it's far from perfect. Stop signs everywhere, and all the bridge bollards are painted black (to prevent tagging? maybe?) with a strip of red/white reflective tape at the top. Still, it's a trail, and the scenery is gorgeous.
