Track distance on rollers
 

What is the best/easiest/simplest way to track distance when using rollers?

Just mark in a zero.

Look at the clock.

Ride.

Look at the clock.

Subtract starting time from ending time.

Why is this in the winter forums? Try studded tires, fleece and wool.

Wrong - get out and ride in the cold. Had my carbon devinci with aero wheels wrapped in 23c tires for the commute today in 25f, and will have it on the road until they ice over. Then I switch to the SS with 40c clearance and slap on the studded Contis. Rollers are for suckers.

A regular bike computer would do the trick.
If you don't want to insult your noble steed by mounting such a low-tech accessory, a bit of Macgyvering ought to let you tape the magnet to the roller and the pickup and display to the frame of the roller.

Keep in mind that roller/trainer miles don't compare well to road miles. IMO it makes more sense to ride by time and effort rather than a synthetic mileage/speed.
