Repairing a small tear on the top of pannier bag
 

I have a small tear maybe 2cm long on the top of the pannier bag and its a clean tear. Its not an issue except when it rains ofcourse. I have tried a patch that goes with a blow up camp mattress but that came off after a while. Not sure what else to try

How about tape?

yes i have used gaffa tape before but it came off. i used a tire patch today so hoping that will hold. i just thought i would post and see if there was a proper or better way to do this

I would probably use Tear Aid tape (Type A). This stuff is what most people are looking for to do many kinds of repairs and are just not aware of it. It is good for rubber rafts, air mattresses, and many, many other things. Can be found on auction sites, and many other places. Here is a link to their web site. https://www.tear-aid.com/

Thanks i ended up using a tire patch but just checked it and its peeling off a bit. Might have to look into this tape your recommended but seems quite expensive for one little patch. Anyway hope to get to it when time permits :)

That fabric is the stuff they make rafts from. Permanent repairs are easy to do. Get the stuff to repair rafts. For the full scoop on how to do it right, call any rafting outfit. As long it isn't high rafting season, they will happily walk you through the repair; the stuff to buy, where to get it and how to use it. They do this stuff all the time.

I put a very sharp kitchen knife through my 10-year old Ortleib. Bag is now 20 years old and I never even think about the repair. (I could still fill it with water and use it to cross the Sahara if I ever wanted to.)

Oh thanks sounds interesting. I know there are camping stores near me so might ask them when i can get to it
