'Nice' colour??? Yeah, as in 'drop dead gorgeous nice', wow!

i-timy 05-06-09 02:20 PM

Yeah, this will replace my Triumph as my commute bike.
Older guy bringing the bike to the curb said "too old to ride a bike." still resonates that the day does arrive............

Whats the best method for getting surface rust off the frame?

My wife thinks so.

lol

$20 on Craig's List and it was a mess.

It is the uncomfortably close proximity of the front wheel to the down tube that makes me this bike met a fixed object... the seat post does scream Trek.

Anybody want to chime in with model/year?

gamecat 05-07-09 08:49 PM

1986 PH-501 Ventoux?

Others will be able to say more positively, I have a habit of being in the ballpark but off-base.

Bikedued 05-08-09 05:31 AM

85 or 86 PGN10, a nice find indeed!

No lugs. PH-501

Lugs.....PGN10

Looks like they broke the rear axle at some point, either that or a precaution for a heavier rider. It should
be a quick release, not a bolt on. Hub looks correct though. EDIT On second look, that is a Shimano
pie plate. Should be Maillard Helicomatic if memory serves. Mine stayed stock about an hour once I got it home:D.,,,,BD

Just wanted to say NICE CATCH! I've never been crazy about the graphic decals on these years of Peugeot, but the rainbow stripes look great on the dark red/maroon/bergundy paintwork. And you got it with a hub upgrade:)

QuickDraw 05-08-09 01:03 PM

Yesterday I got a few things

one b-17 with copper rivets and chrome rails
(for a friend)

scored a Ideale model 90 alloy rail/cantle plate with clamp

also picked up these shoes on the bay:

I've been looking for a Panasonic on and off for a while, so when I saw this 1987 DX-4000 on CL for $50, I called and offered $100 just to be sure I got it. Looks pretty good, a few paint scuffs here and there and needs overhauled and new hoods, but overall I'm pretty pleased. All the 105 is present and the saddle is in OK shape. Blackburn trainer came with. Probably hang on to this one if it rides nicer than my old Cannondale, gotta flip one though:) Better pics when I get her cleaned up.

It is a bit of a puzzle... Sachs/Huret derailleurs (Rival RD) with Shimano indexing shifters that don't match?
The wheelset is SR hubs/Araya rims w/presta... don't know how the pie plate got there.

Thanks for the help with the ID. I was giddy when I got it free of the bedsprings and refrigerator doors. When you see presta valve stems and Reynolds decals, you know you're on to something! And it's my size to boot!

Wow. Makes the Schwinn Varsity I pulled out of the city dump last month pale in comparison! Well done.

bigbossman 05-08-09 10:04 PM

Just bagged this for $50. A freakishly large Raleigh touring bike:

Looking forward to the pics. I can almost guarantee it will ride better than most any C'Dale. The only exception being a C'dale MTB, the fat tires make up for the harsh ride.;),,,,BD

On the PGN10. The Sachs Rivals are stock, shifters aren't, wheels aren't. I have mine set up with that cream silver 105 7 speed with dual pivot aero brakes, It's really light, and rides like only a Peugeot can. I also happen to love the rainbows and checkers graphics. My favorite out of all the Peugeot decals.

I have changed the bars and stem since the pic. The top of the drops were just too steep for my comfort level. They were also too narrow.

I love the props that the Peugeots are getting right now. I can't wait to finish my PH501 Ventoux so I can post it here. I was all original, but I may change over to indexed downtubes just to be more rider friendly for my sons. They just don't have the feel for friction.

Found a TS-2, WAG-1 and a dropout alignment tool at a garage sale today:D

Shimano barend shifters were $5.00.
Meeting up with JunkYardBike in the parking lot. :D Did a deal for the wheels, many of the brakes, derailleurs, and small parts. Thanks very much! You the man!

I did, but the reach is too short for the bike I wanted it for. I have another one that's way too long. One day I'll find the right one :)

brandenjs 05-09-09 01:55 PM

Nice bunches of stuff you guys. Machin I like the 600 crankset. I'm a big fan of the tri color 600. Also spotted a pair of 105 long reach calipers. Let me know if any of that is going on the clearance rack...

Tigerprawn 05-09-09 01:56 PM

Haha you guys are beasts! Very nice catches!

Machin what'd you do, go to the swap meet with a wheel barrow? :)
