Found at the curb yesterday after lunch at my bro-in-law's place. Left and drove around the corner and there it was, looking very forlorn and leaning against a tree at the verge. Nobody home but a dog, so I phoned my BIL and asked him to go over later and knock to see if the bike was available. He called back later and told me the guy said, "Take it," so he did. Put it in his shed for me to retrieve, which I did tonight. My size, even. I'll get it tuned and see how I like it but will likely pass it on.https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...876c635841.jpg

Not C&V, but I spent $12 at a yard sale today:

The rim is cracked and dented but the hub is in great shape, and I actually have another 20 hole rim kicking around. The crankset is barely used.

Been watching this pug on cl for awhile. Finally went to look at it today. A bit rough and has a kickstand ( hopefully not to crimped). Cleaned it up and adjusted a few bits and did a 12 mile loop. Sure felt stable. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a43d3f0bb.jpeghttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...46abf68d8.jpeg

Picked up a parts box and some panniers. I thought I was done with Stingrays but this came out of the bushes. Ha, of course I recently sold off most of my Schwinn parts...https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b7801f9531.jpghttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...63f3b8c159.jpg

@curbtender Steelman fork 1 1/8?

Murray Missile 10-05-19 03:29 PM

Not sure if it was headed for the dump but I replied to a FB ad with this picture in it.

This was in that tangle of frames minus wheels, stem and bars. Ended up buying a bunch of other stuff from him, this picture was just the tip of the iceberg! I figure I have about $10 in it as purchased. 1991 DiamondBack Momentum, Tange Infinity frame, HiTen fork. Decals are roached and has lots of nicks and scratches. I'm going to try to touch up the paint but I'm probably going to strip all the decals.

Its 1" with a nice Steelman stem. He said the frame had corroded and he deleted it. I would have liked to seen it. The parts in the box were takeoffs from it...DA7800 and a carbon crank.https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7ec498fcd9.jpg

Weird...

I have a 1999 Steelman. When I bought it, Brent was transitioning from 1" to 1 1/8" forks and didn't have steel forks in production, so I have a CF fork. Always keeping an eye out for a steel fork.

Nice find in the parts box!

Gosh! I'm surprised that you didn't get arrested for stealing it! $12.? Right place, right time. That crankset is lovely! Deal...

Grabbed this at a flea market yesterday, I'll clean it up and put it on my '75 Schwinn Varsity (turns out Big Bird is a 1975 not a 1974).

I was going to wash them, lol. No plans, if interested. Some seams coming apart, but nothing bad.

mainaa471 10-10-19 12:06 AM

I found this Fuji Sports 12 on someone's lawn with a free sign on it. Everything appears to be original on it, The gumwalls look like they literally melted.
I have not even washed it yet, but after a quick lube it rides, stops, and shifts smooth.
It is an 80 model with a November 79 build date.
I'm looking forward to giving it some tlc this winter.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f18467f1e.jpeghttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...74632eb37.jpeg

Always amazed at Schwinn chrome, tough stuff.

I'd say this ranks up there with my catches and saves. Woman from an affluent neighborhood nearby replies to my ad last night and says she has a Cervelo and if I wanted it. I bit even if I had doubts. She gave me her address and where she left it for me. Drove there this morning and lo and behold, a 2012 R5 VWD. Full carbon 1x11 and my size (just need to change to a shorter stem). It appears not to have been ridden for awhile. Score! My first modern road bike. lol

Schwinn gumwalls used to do this. You have the classic Terry tennis racquet clip on that fork blade.

$20 from a super nice guy clearing out the garage prior to moving to Florida.

Thank you!! I was wondering what in earth that was for. It has such a strong tension and I couldn't figure out what it was made to hold.

gilesa 10-11-19 04:30 AM

Where to buy new leopardskin sidewalls like that Fuji?

dweenk 10-11-19 01:14 PM

Jeez. I have one of those racquet clips and didn't know what it was. Anyone want it?

I want to you to teach me your ways. What exactly does your ad say and where do you run it? That is one hell of a score.
