Front lights...remove or leave on

After a night ride, I took the front light off the handlebar and sat down for a rest. Looking at the light, I suddenly had a brainwave. I'm going to do another night ride tomorrow; why not just leave the light on the handlebar?

What say you, leave on or take off?

coasting 11-30-12 07:51 AM

Oh boy...winter time I see.

Nachoman 11-30-12 07:55 AM

some might consider that to be a bit "funky".

10 Wheels 11-30-12 07:56 AM

I use them in the day time....leave them on all the time.

You leave everything on your bike though. Do you have a sound system on it yet?

My sound system is The Wind.

LowCel 11-30-12 08:13 AM

Really?

Soloist Assassin 11-30-12 08:42 AM

lights are heavy

renton 11-30-12 08:46 AM

This forum is going downhill.. honestly. I don't know if it's because winter is coming or what. I find myself visiting bikeforums less and less.

I leave my lights on most of the time, full time. The only time that I take them off (generally) is for club nights where weight and speed are of the essence. Beyond that, looking funky, or other people's opinion of it being there really doesn't matter to me.

I sometimes get a brainwave. I go lie on the couch until it goes away.

rjones28 11-30-12 09:08 AM

Please leave it on. This is a family-friendly forum.

This.

Sometimes I get a brainwave and open stupid posts like this one instead of just ignoring it like I should.

Creakyknees 11-30-12 09:41 AM

I race with my lights, frame pump and saddlebag. So, yeah.

ChrisM2097 11-30-12 09:43 AM

I take my lights off for 2 reasons:

1. Prevent theft
2. Charge the batteries

I use them at night, during the day, in winter, in summer, on the road, and on the trail.

That is not much of a travel.

dalameda 11-30-12 10:13 AM

I take the light off and put it in my second water bottle holder.

Oh please. You've been here a few years, you should know this happens every year. Go hang out on snowboardforums.net until March if you're going to be all complainy.

I leave them on the bike here in Vancouver. If I'm gonna park it in Portland I take them off (before someone else does that for me.)

StephenH 11-30-12 12:51 PM

I leave my hub-generator and light on the bikes full-time. It's handy not to have to worry about it getting dark before I'm done.

With the MagicShine, I normally took it off, but it just used a rubber O-ring to go on, too.

Makel 11-30-12 09:03 PM

Leave it on, let it get stolen when you ride it during the day.

surgeonstone 12-01-12 11:30 AM

wait , let me think, leave it on.

mprelaw 12-01-12 09:27 PM

OK, you're worried about your light getting stolen during the day while you're off the bike sipping your latte. Do you take your saddle off, too? It's not all that much harder to lift, if the thief has a multi-tool.
