1988 Miyata 615 54cm

I found another Miyata in 57 that fits me better, so I plan on selling this one. I am not up to packaging and shipping, so looking for someone near NW Ohio. Willing to drive a ways and meet too. I swapped out and pirated some parts from this one. Description as purchased and better pics here;

It is pretty clean except for a scrape on the top tube and a top tube decal that is/was peeled off a bit.

I cleaned this up a bit and lubed bearings. A new bearing in headset added, and a spindle and cup from the co-op along with new BB bearings. I replaced the chain with a better used one. Mostly stock except the pedals, seat, and bars. Bars now are Randnner bars from another bike, and brake levers are some Dia Compes that replaced the originals that had the safety levers. It shifts and rides nicely. I also pirated 1 water bottle cage and the rack.

The tires were on it at purchase and are nearly new, but wouldn't have been my choice. The 700c wheels are pretty true and spin nicely and I believe are fairly desirable with the 40 spoke rear. The stock Miyata stem with the M insert is on it also. I was planning to list it locally on Craigslist but thought I would put it up here first. I was thinking $150 might be fair. If I can't get that much perhaps I will keep the nice Sansin wheels and triple crank and try to sell the rest as parts.

Nice bike, $150 is more than fair.

Tempted to get this for my niece...

What keeps these from being full on tourers? Theyve got triples, cantis, fender clearance (as far as I can tell), double water bottle braze ons, relaxed geometry although maybe slightly sporty...

Is it because of the downtube shifters and no fork braze ons? Whats the back wheel spoke count?

Would somebody be worried about touring long distances on this vs a 1000?

You said full on so I'd say low rider braze ons and 3 water bottles (one for fuel) are the main differences. As a Clyde, I'd need to ride the frame to see if it was up to my weight plus a lot of gear, as well as stable. I suspect it's up to the job. Bar end shifters are easy to add.

Here in the DC area that bike would not last a weekend on Craigslist priced at $300.

Oh, damn... What was that late '70s song lyric - "Beat me, Hurt me, Make me write bad checks..."

I'm by Elyria, and have driven farther for a purchase... Consider it SOLD! PM me and we can arrange the details, since niece is coming in to town in a couple of weeks...!

SOLD! I picked it up today for my niece when she visits in a few weeks.. Seller and I went on a short ride, even though the 54cm 615 was a bit cramped for me. Of course Steve was riding his 'new' Miyata 1000LT...

As he said...

Yep sold. A proper way for a transaction; meet halfway in a small town on a rail trail for a nice test ride before sale. Glad it is going to an appreciative new user. Nice day to try my newer bike out for a few more miles afterwards too. Thanks Milo.

Congrats on the bike. Pretty sure the quote is from Eating Raoul.
