The next BIG name in Pro Cycling?

Between these 3...

(1) Remco Evenepoel
(2) Sepp Kuss
(3) Mathieu van der Poel

1 & 3 are possibilities, 2 is only in the list because he's American.

Kuss is listed because he’s really good and has a lot of potential.

(I only threw in #3 because he’s from Belgium )

Kuss is good but as for becoming a 'big name' he hasn't show potential yet. He's 24.

Poel is also 24 but has won Amstel Gold this year and is a very talented rider. Very promising prospect. He's from Belgium but is registered as Dutch.

MinnMan 08-05-19 10:42 AM

Wout van Aert

Van der Poel has the most letters and is technically the biggest name.

There's no other answer than: van der Poel

If he stays healthy, I believe Remco will be the most successful of the three.

Speculation, obviously. But, the sure thing is... time will tell.

CyclingFever 08-08-19 08:30 AM

Van der Poel if he goes all in for a Grand Tour.

Brandon has had a couple hard years. Last year crashing - twice, hip, concussion. This year sick. I think that all counts. But I also think ... we shall see.
There is a bigg difference between a few hour power and multi-day GT ability. Like comparing a miler (runner) to a marathon runner. Cycling likes marathon types (I like shorter). As such I don't see our cx guys really making the transition. Brandon is still TBD - but I think my best bet on the new big thing - other than our TdF winner :-)

van der Poel is already a big name, but I expect him to be the biggest name in the semi-near future. Didn't he win something like 4 of the 6 road races he entered? And that is without a strong team to support him.

Evenepoel also looks like he could be very, very good. Well, he already is very, very good, but he looks like he could also be among the elite of the next generation.

The Dane Jensen 08-12-19 02:57 AM

Remco is on the charge.

CyclingFever 08-13-19 10:51 AM

MVDP could over take Nino in the MTB World Cup but he is sticking to his plan.

PJay120 08-13-19 12:17 PM

Egan Bernal.

INEOS team meetings are going to be awkward for a while.

BKE 08-15-19 01:00 PM

Wish you would have asked " between these four" with Wout van Aert being the 4th, he's my pick. Maybe not a Froome but more along the lines of Segan.

MinnMan 08-15-19 05:50 PM

I don't know if van der Poel is GC material. Is he too big to be a great climber? If he devotes himself to road racing, he's going to tear up the classics and win some sprints, that's for sure. If he takes the rainbow jersey in Yorkshire and then only does road racing part time, that would be a little strange. Does anybody know when/where he's moving teams? Cause clearly he will be.

He put on a great show today (or yesterday?) in Norway:

Last Km of Stage 1, Arctic Race of Norway (2019/)

We'll see how he does now that he's going to ride full time for a UCI world team, but my hopes for him have faded. I wish him well, though.

I didn't include van Aert because I already consider him to be a big name. :thumb:

I do agree he's in line to replace Sagan when he's done. I believe van der Poel will be in that category also. We'll probably see quite a few battles between the "van" boys.

Remco and Kuss, I think will be more GC type contenders.

Yup.
When was the last time someone won White & Yellow jerseys?

Andy Schleck in 2010.
Contador in 2007.
Ullrich in 1997.
Fignon in 1983.

The jersey was created in 1975. I think quite a few earlier winners would have qualified, Merckx in 1969 for one.

eja_ bottecchia 09-09-19 02:34 AM

Pogacar and Bernal.

Bernard Hinault says this guy could wind up being better than him; I'm putting my money on the Badger.

Rajflyboy 09-09-19 01:20 PM

If he wants it

Van Der Poel

See any potential in stage 15?
