time out while posting
 

Several times, while writing a reply to a post, I lose my log in only to find that the post I had written is gone after I log back in. This is in spite of seeing auto-save pop up occasionally. It's like there is an automatic time out. Anyone else experience this?

I have not experienced anything like this. Have you been experiencing any other internet slowness? It sounds like it could be a connection issue.

I have the same problem.
My solution to go around this is: if you press post and you are presented with the log in screen press backwards button, then open a new browser tab and from there log in to bikeforums, now go back to your post and post it.

Where can I change the setting to set the the site to NOT log me out?

When you log in, check the block that says "Remember me".
