Rawleigh Carlson on Ebay!

Had to crack up at the spelling on this one... But in fact this is worth sharing for the Raleigh gurus, because it is a pretty unusual transition frame that has both the older Carlton down tube decal, which was typically reserved for the "Raleigh Carlton" model in the mid-1960s lineup, as well as the newer Super Course decal. The two models would not have overlapped for more than a year. -Gregory https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c8f8b27f06.jpg |
Pawsh. Very pawsh bwike.
I'm surprised to see the white Simplex shifters still in one piece - wonder if they're replacements for the black-with-stamped-aluminum trim version. -Kurt |
I have the Coffee painted version with this same decal scheme. “Carlton” on the down tube, “Super Course”on the top tube, and the Raleigh anniversary headbadge. Mine has a 1967 serial #, I think for the 1968 model year.

Love that headbadge.

Carlson - a Swedish Raleigh?

Anyone else collect "Wacky Packages" BITD? They had one for Raleigh Cigarettes:

Does yours have the same lugs? I have a 25 inch which, according to the catalog, did not exist at that point (I know, I know, can't necessarily trust the catalogs of that period). It has those same lugs but it was repainted at some point and I have never been able to officially determine if it is, in fact, a Super Course. Also, what is your serial number? Mine is Z6883.
Hopefully the lugs display clearly. Took these photos with my phone so they’re not fantastic. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0a8e2899c.jpeg I really like the Carlton decals. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3d8c39efc.jpeg Serial B787 https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...122ccde80.jpeg Just a front photo. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...59058c65a.jpeg The seat tube decals are replacements, as it was just a naked tube when I received the bike. I was able to determine their exact placement because the paint had faded around the old decals and left a darker silhouette. At first I was unsure what the center decal should be, until I realized that the silhouette was the exact shape of the headbadge. I’ve since seen pics of other 68s and that helped me confirm it. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...db333262e.jpeg Parked at my place of employment. Right next to our useless bike rack that’s pushed all the way up against the wall, so as to not take up a single overvalued parking space for cars. |

P.S.: Get an army of cargo bikes to park at that rack. The longer, the better. And a bunch of angry cargo bike riders. -Kurt |

An absolutely beautiful build. Is that copper wire holding the bar tape at the top?

Thanks for the pics. Your frame lugs exactly match mine and it has the same wrap on the stays at the seat lug. My fork has a different crown but it is exactly like the one on ebay that started this thread. Do the fork dropouts on your bike have a funky size? Mine are smaller than normal and I could not find a metric or SAE bolt to fit it exactly. I ended up using a nut on the bolts to keep them tight.

Fork Dropouts appear to be normal. I used modern Velo Orange hubs and the skewers hold perfectly.

I got ahead of myself on that one. I meant to ask if the fender eyelets on the fork dropouts were an odd size. Doh!

I contacted the seller of this bike and asked about the serial number. For posterity sake it is Y7807
