No. And the space between the tire and downtube looks to be correct.

Should that model of bike have braze-ons for downtube shifters?

Yeah. The fork looks fine. I would worry about this one being drewed. Someone grind off the shifter bosses and cover the bare steel with a sticker?

Good point about the shifter bosses. It's a CL advert. I asked the seller for a serial # photo so I can look it up. It may not be a 610.

My '82 613 did not have braze-on shifter bosses.

Even my 84 610 didnt have bosses

Yes - the original 1983 (?) brochure photo is hard to see, but the DT shifters look like they had a clamp/strap attachment to the down tube. I should have realized this myself because I have a 1984 620 that had the clamp/strap set-up when I got it.

If the seller provides the serial # as I have requested all will be known.

The subject bike is one size up (appears to be 24") from my 410 and 620 - might be a slightly better fit. The bike needs many new components and it would be fun to try a set of 650b wheels I have on it.

To really know, you have to pull it out seek out a shop with this tool:

Some Treks from that approximate era had a single aero boss atop the downtube, or had a clamped-on aero Symmetric shifter.

Someone went home made Single speed and a bit crazy with the stickers, could be a nice resurrection though.-for the right $$

^^^ That's exactly what you'll find on an '82 or '83 61x. This one appears to be an '82; looks like the rear der. cable stop is on top of the chainstay. (Hard to tell for sure with the background.)

And yeah, bike needs TLC/intervention/deprogramming. Handlebar looks mummified.....

As did my 613; good eye. Hmm, curiouser. Maybe it is an '83, 400- or 500-ish.

I think the question about the fork was answered.

Some people have found surprises lurking under stickers. I've heard of denting the downtube with the font brake, but that may well be in front of where the sticker is. Anything hidden?

Look at the large gap between the rear wheel and seat tube - it has long chain stays and the color looks to be 'Pewter' - it may be a 6xx - definitely pre-1984 with the old-style decal.

I looked at the '82 and '83 catalogs and the only 'pewter with red panel (decal)' I could find was the 1982 736 - but the chain stays look too long for a 736.

Maybe @The Golden Boy can identify this.

Here's another photo from CL - looks like there is a bottle cage bolt sticking down from the bottom of the down tube - given this feature and the long chain stays it may be a 620.

I see evidence of clamp-on shifters having nicked the paint in the past. Given the location of the stickers, it might have been decaled up before it was turned into a singlespeed.

That material on the ground looks like ground-up Kentucky coal; makes it almost impossible to distinguish minor frame features from background. I don't think any of the pre-'84 bikes had bottle cage bosses on the bottom. And pre-'84 6xxs should all have rack braze-ons. The other possible 411 source would be @JohnDThompson . Seems like even the serial number can lead to as many questions as answers; still worth getting if the seller ever coughs up.

Edit - is it now sporting 700s? Brake blocks are at the bottoms of the slots, suggesting the possibility. That would explain what would otherwise appear to be a long wheelbase (tire / seat tube gap).

In any event, it's a nice old Trek with good bones remaining, and weeping for a true C&Ver to bring back at least some semblance of her previous glory. A set of old Blue Lines and Power Ratchets would wake her right up, turn the pumpkin back into a chariot.

No idea- those chainstays are longer than any x30 bike.

But that catalog photo ^ shows under-the-chainstay cable routing, and in the craigslist photo I'm pretty sure I see the little bell cable stop on top of the chainstay.

I believe this likely puts it as earlier than '83.

It looks quite a bit like my '81 710, but mine has rear rack mounts on the seatstays, and the chainstay cable stop on mine is also a different shape.

My guess based on all this and the observations above was going to be '82 730 or 736. But the catalog photos seem to show under-the-chainstay routing for those models -- and above-the-chainstay routing for the more "touring" oriented models! A transitional year, I guess.

Whatever it is, if it is cheap, and I were in your shoes, I'd snatch it up.
