WTB - quality 80/90s road frame thats 49 or 50cm.

Road frame with 130mm rear is preferred, but not required.
Tange 1 or comparable tubing would be ideal.
Paint doesn't need to be great, as powdercoating is an option.

Itll be a project learning bike for a kid, so any quality options in the $125 or less realm?

I have two quality frames in that size range.
  1. A Reynolds tubed Raleigh Technium. I stripped the paint from the main tubes trying to determine if it was 531 or 753 (I suspect the latter). Very lightweight. F/F $20 plus shipping.
  2. An 85 Specialized Sequoia in white with light rust. I think with OA bath painting can be avoided. F/F $30 plus shipping.
I will follow up with pics and measurements if you are interested.

Well this is certainly interesting. So its one of the rare Technium frames that was the reverse of normal and used steel tubes bonded to aluminum joints?

Correct. AFAIK steel tubes were only 531 or 753 (team). When I bought the bike it had a Dura Ace group, which would indicate Team model. But I never located the proof mark on the tubes. It had sponsor's stickers and riders name on TT so I presume used for racing in former life. The frame is the last one pictured here.

Couple of things to consider about this frame: First, IIRC the post is 25mm. I may still have it tho. Secondly, since the joints are bonded I would recommend not powder coating. I deliberately avoided removing paint at the joints for fear the stripper might degrade the epoxy.

mstateglfr Some more details on the Raleigh:
Seat tube is 19" CTC.
Top tube is 20.25 CTC.
Rear dropouts 126.7mm
Fish scale says 6.5 lbs with HS and BB. HS and BB seem to me probably serviceable.
I can include the oddball 25mm seatpost.
Last time I shipped a frame it was $45 postage

I have a motobecane jubilee sport that is likely too large at 52 cm. It is local to you though and comes with a headset, bottom bracket, seatpost, and bar and stem. It's Vitus 888 tubing so not as high a quality as you were looking for. The paint is in fine shape.

I really should build this up and sell it. It's not like I don't have the parts lying around.

I have a Sekai that you can have for the cost of shipping. It will need paint. I bought it for the Superbe crank it was sporting at the time. PM me and I will send photos.

And just to muddy the waters a little more, here are pics of the Sequoia in all its rusty splendor. Seat tube is a whopping 18.75 CTC. As per post #2 it is F/F/headset only.

Just a word to all, @mstateglfr gifted me with a tall Schwinn Prelude recently. If I had a small frameset, I would readily reciprocate. With that, I hope Karma smiles on him in his search.

The one near me I posted in the CL thread seems to be 18.5"/47cm otherwise I'd check it out for you. I'll keep a lookout.

If the OP doesn't want this one, would you ship to Vancouver BC?

I can knock $20 off the Technium in the name of Karma. Now cost of shipping.

Distanc3 is one spot ahead of you in line. Offered it to mstateglfr first however so waiting on what he decides.

Thank you for the offers, but I need to pass on both.
Powdercoating would be a concern for the technical, though its tempting to try since its just a neat alternative process of frame building history.

How about a Grandis?
