So, you experts, any reason not to get a 1/4” drive beam torque wrench instead of a cheap and dangerous clicker or an expensive one, either of which would have to get calibrated? I know how to use one and like the continuous feedback, which takes the terror out of tightening little things. Only problem I can see is they lack the upper range for drivetrain fasteners.

News is simply too depressing and scary to read this morning. I need something else to think about.

I've got a beam for large torques like bottom brackets and such and then a couple smaller click ones for small stuff. Never seen a 1/4" beam, though.

BTW, we have a mechanic's forum.

My only other minor complaint is the lack of ratchet, which is inconvenient at times and makes for interesting contortions at other times.

When trees are gone, it has a bit of a psychological effect, not to mention the breathing and power part. I'm definitely not a climber, and yesterday wasn't my best day on the bike.

A small conundrum, as I was doing very well until I took a week off the bike to go to WA state over the July 4th holiday. I came back, and I can't get out of my own way. I really expected to PR this, but went 5 minutes slower, and power was down bigly. Saving grace was weight was also down, or it would have been way worse than the 12th place I finished at. Top third, but still...

I use an electronic type, which is good simply because I can watch the torque applied as it rises. This is left over from my auto tech days, and I'm not sure I would go that route for a bike. Beam, most likely.

Okay, I just saw this Project One paint job on Trek's IG feed, and if I ever get a P1 Madone or Domane, I might just have to spring for it: Cosmic -

Hot!

23 years since buying Klein and Trek is just getting inspired by their older paint schemes. Hope they do lightning soon!

You don't want your torque wrench to get hacked, do you?

Places like Walmart and other "shops" that utilize undertrained staff in the shop environment utilize these, or something similar. Having a footprint of the correct torque used on the wheels, is important. I'm not saying retail consumers are shady, but.. Who am I kidding. They're jerks, and they should be shopping at the jerk store.

My wife is a newshound, and said the same thing. I checked out many years ago, and took up cynicism as a defense mechanism. It has served me well. I didn't check out lightly though. Only when it became apparent that the direction wasn't going to change.

My torque settings are an open book.

I read, recently, that they're running 80ish psi in 23mm Rubino Pros. I mounted one of those today and, being the adventurous thinker that I am, said 'What the hey'? I'll give it a whirl. Alas, the bike that needed a rear wheel needed a 27" wheel, and the Rubino Pro is a 700c.

Still having bikes with 27 inch wheels is your first mistake.
