Mixing cx tires thoughts
 

Has any one mixed and matched cyclcross tire type and tire brand , and got positive results, like more speed and grip where it counted , in the conditions you faced ?

Yes.

Sure. Generally use the same brand and maybe different tread. More like having white walls on the front of the car, not on the back. It works fine, just does not seem right.

For awhile I was riding a Bontrager city/touring tire on the rear 700x35 and a Continental cyclocross tire same width on front. The rear felt the same, like a tank, but the front felt pretty nimble. The only downside was the front tire automagically turned into a goat head magnet. :cry:

Sure. I used 700x32 front, 700x35 rear (same brand and tire type) on one bike for off road. Worked fine.

And my road bike has 700x23 Schwalbe One V-Guard on the front and 700x25 Continental Ultra Sport II on the back. Good compromise for handling and comfort. The bike felt a bit quicker on climbs with the 700x23 Schwalbes front and rear, but rode a bit harshly. With the 700x25 Conti up front handling felt splashy on fast curves (they're a bit too wide for my rims), but was comfortable on chipseal and rough pavement. The mix handles both concerns so I've stuck with that combo for almost a year.

I did that with motorcycles years ago too. Just mixed different tire, tread and widths until I found what worked for most commuting conditions, wet and dry.

I've seen MTB sets marketed and sold with different front/rear, don't see why it wouldn't work in CX

i was thinking mud tire front , and mix tire rear . i think that would let me get more traction in the front , and still keep the speed up , and not just suck up my power effort .

Go with the more aggressive tire up front for braking & steering. I like an MXP rear & PDX front as conditions approach mud.
