1985 Trek 170, pinky, what is it worth?
 

Very good condition, as I can see in these only pictures I got. The s.n.puts the bike in 1985.
Shimano Dura Ace equipped. 60 cm frame.
Pink????
What is a approximate value?
As you can see, in the package is a 1985 Trek 620 (according with the s.n.) and a 1982 Trek 330.

What's the serial number?

187xxx, there were three made at 60 cm.

170's don't come up often. Really clean examples bring $1800-2000. 60cm is my size :) Typically I'd imagine they'd be equipped with full Super Record, instead of Dura Ace. But anythings possible it it was purchased as a frameset.

Somebody offered me today these three bikes.
He already has a offer of 1150$ for all three bikes .
I don't have the money to do such.a offer.
I was thinking that the 170 should be around 1500, a guess

170's are very rare though. Somebody might just put it on a wall.

A buddy of mine had a rare 1930's bike and eventually got a couple grand for it, and the buyer wanted it for some sort of display. Wasn't even a cyclist. He was an artiste'.

I talked last night , close to midnight , he made the deal for 1150$, for all. I wonder if is somebody member here.

If the buyer is willing to ship they will do just fine. I think frame size, and the color is hurting the value of the 170.

At 60 CM though. I wonder if the original owner got a deal on it because of it's color. Maybe had one laying around in this color and said we can cut you a deal on the frame. Who knows.

Had it been local, I would've bought it in a hearbeat. No question. No concern on color.

I think someone got a great deal top end American built frames from the mid 80's are going $600-800 in real nice shape. As for the pink paint it seems about one out of 5 Top end US made bikes had the pink Dura coat paint real nice durable great looking paint. I had a BMX with this paint and matching pink mags.

The original seller bought them at an estate sale, probably cheap, but he said he isjust a BMX guy, so knows about bikes so he did some researches.
He made his money!!
I wish the bikes to be for sale today, I just sold my Miyata ProTour.

You should send me the money, 1000, and I would bought and shipped the bike to you. And I would buy for me the other two.

Three hours each way, Three bikes. I'm glad you guys and gals think it was a good deal. Here is what I got.

A 1988 330 22.5 in looks to have all its original parts including the tires. Paint about an 8. In bad need of an overhaul and new consumables. One broken spoke. Unknown if seat post and stem move. Mechanically rough.

A 1985 600 60 cm looks to have all its original parts. Paint about a 6. It has surface rust issues, was probably used on a trainer. In bad need of an overhaul and new consumables including hoods. May need a headset, I have never felt an A9 this rough unless it is assembled wrong. Unknown if seat post and stem move. Mechanically very rough.

A 1985 170 60 cm, I would guess this one was bought as a frame. Paint an 8 or 9. Has Super Record headset, Dura Ace 7200 brakes and levers, Dura Ace Stem 7200, Cinelli criterium bars. Dura ace AX 7300 crank and pedals. Dura Ace 7400 shifters, front, and rear derailleur, Dura ace 6 speed freewheel. Suntour sprint hubs, Mavic GP 4 rims. American classic seatpost, and a cheep seat. It’s mostly Dura Ace but a mixed bag. In bad need of an overhaul and new consumables including hoods.

Tires on all 3 toast.

Did I get a great deal, No Did I get an acceptable deal, I think so considering what it is going to cost to get them ridable.

As hard as a 170 is to find, I think you did fine. I would've paid almost the full amount for just the 170, so theres that.

It is so helpful to set aside some profit dollars in a bike fund. I find anymore there is a lot more profit potential on the relatively expensive stuff than the low end stuff. But hey, you can't grab them all! I have missed out on some tremendous hot deals over the years.

I would call this a very good deal.

As far as getting them rideable, do you have the time/tools/aptitude/pile of parts/workshop space to do the work yourself? If not, sell them as projects, should still do well. If you pay a shop to do the work, you will not get a return on that spending $$. You will net MORE selling them as they sit. The 170 is obviously a collectors bike. The 330 is more of a recreational rider, do the basics, get it ready to ride (as long as you do the work yourself) and sell locally. If you pay someone to do the work, or overpay on consumables, selling price will not cover the repair costs on the 330. In my market, a ready to ride, very clean 330 is a $200 bike.

620 value really depends on the rust.

Endless, thousands of threads on dealing with rust. Google will get you there. Rust is a value killer. Thats too bad, as a 1985 620 is a very desirable bike too. Trainers can really KILL steel bikes.

Given the odd collection of parts on the 170, it screams part out if you plan to sell it. No one will put much value on that build, yet the parts individually have good value. As a keeper, who cares about the mix of parts, they should all work just fine together despite the odd mix.

wrk101 No plans to sell or part out any of them. They are for my collection. Yes do all my own work, have tools for every thing except taps and facing mills. Bike is a 600 not a 620. When I get it apart, into the evapro rust it goes. The 170 will probably go to Super Record, I have some of the parts.
