Got my first wool jersey - Check it out!
 

So the UPS just dropped off a post-holiday gift for me.... I've been looking for a Merino wool jersey, but they were always so bloody expensive, it seems.... till I ran into this one from the brewery that provides us with the tastiness of Fat Tire Amber Ale....

The lettering's embroidered and the little side patch is stitched on.

The bonus on this one is that they are only $59!!!

Compare that to similar cool woolie that Seven Cycles has for $140 or the new (kinda ugly) woolie at from Cervelo for $217 (!!)....

Why the heck are Merino wool jerseys so overpriced? I guess it's what the market will bear, but still....

Nice looking jersey. Ever been to a Tour de Fat? Bikes, beer, bands, and the year I went, burlesque. New Belgium throws a fun party. Pretty cool brewery too, I think it's actually wind powered and they are pretty environmentally aware in general. Employees get a beach cruiser after a year of employment. The beer is good too. No, I don't work for them.

That cervelo jersey sure is overpriced, but god damm its a beautiful jersey!

I usually wear a Large in jerseys, but got this one in an XL so I could layer underneath it. It's slightly large with just a t-shirt underneath, but will be perfect for cool weather rides.


No, I don't work for them, either! I live east of the Mississippi, so we don't even get the beer distributed here :mad: Their employees also get to go to Belgium for a beer tour after three or so years of employment, I think. How cool is that??

The stitched in tag inside the jersey says 'New Belgium would like to thank the sheep that gave the wool to make this jersey' :D

Hi, Looks like they have them listed on their home page at newbelgium.com. They look nice, and I am partial to wool, partly because I raise sheep.

They looks so mod-dish, I love them!

They look great, but require more cautious care than I'd like: according to the FAQ, the looser cut version requires hand-washing or dry cleaning, and the other machine washing on gentle or hand washing, and neither allows use of a dryer. I don't mind hanging jerseys up to dry, but I'm not about to spend time on hand-washing my cycling gear. But, boy, they do look beautiful!

Yeah, straight from www.newbelgium.com in the Groovy Goods section. I already had the other NB jersey with the Fat Tire logo on the back. Wore it all summer long last year and got tons of comments and compliments during group rides.

I took the new woolie on a maiden voyage yesterday.... but went snow-shoeing instead of riding, as we got a foot of snow on Friday night.

For us here east of the Mississippi, we don't get New Belgium beers distributed here, so it's a fun reminder of one of my favorite breweries and my time living in Ft. Collins a while back.

I just got mine. It's gorgeous and well-made, but it's HUGE.

I usually wear a small (5'5", 140 lbs). The small I received fits my boss who usually wears a large.

I'm hoping they may have just mislabeled mine, because I'd really like one that doesn't almost come down to my knees. Ok, that's an exaggeration. mid-thigh, maybe.

UPS, as usual, has managed NOT to bring mine that was due today. I'd like to find a way to gather critical momentum to get UPS fired from companies shipping choices. They have about a 30% success rate in delivering packages to me over the past say 5-7 years, maybe more.

Jeez, I'm glad that I surfed by this site today. Just ordered mine. Unbelievable price, assuming the quality is good. Plus, I lived in Fort Collins for about 15 yr and drank (and still drink) a huge amount of their beer.

Don't have measurements on the XL I received, but it DOES have three rear pockets.

The back is plain black.

Why the preference for a Jersey over just a base layer? Is it thicker material, does it have pockets? I'm just trying to understand the fascination. I got a Merino Wool base layer from REI on sale for Christmas for $40. No back pockets, but I don't use them. The zipper's the same, but most importantly there's no advertising on me. Nice Rust color too.

Just FYI, IBEX makes cycling specific wool jerseys as well as sweaters. Quality is top notch, but then for the price it better be.
I have a couple of Patagonia merino sweaters and love them. Now if I could just work up the motivation to clean them :eek:

really though, at some point adornment is sortta a natural thing, and certainly not confined to just humans. And the 'advertisement' thing has its graphic and design value. Then there is the balance of color/blocking/line.
Having been in the sports & sportsrag trade for umpteen years, the approach and use of 'design' elements is really what makes the diff.
Jersey designs like the La Vie Claire from the 80s, below, was a high style example of the art form, same with 'Z' and a bunch of other well styled team kit from those days. And if you see a pic of Greg or Hinault outfitted in their kit, they looked sharp. Most of the team kit stuff these days more like the stuff below
