That first NR rd looks like Christmas! Beautiful work.

Soylent 10-06-13 06:15 PM

Is that Otis? He had some really nice C record cranks for sale not too far back.

That is Otis, he posted that Ritchey set in the 75th Anniversary Paramount thread.

Forgot to say it's absolutely gorgeous. I wonder if it would be more expensive to find the pieces for my Guerciotti or have him do the work to my SR groupset.

Yes, Otis, I believe. Brilliant work.

Magic!

bloom87 10-06-13 06:55 PM

only thing.... IMHO don't cutout/drill C record cranks except maybe on the arm's inside...
also, multiple round drilliums on nuovo record fr. dérailleur is plan ugly

everything else is really nice.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there.

chapel 10-06-13 07:00 PM

wow... not sure I'd call it all drillium if he's not going all the way through though? More like millium perhaps? :)

I love those ones that are just milled and painted. It's so lovely

peter_d 10-06-13 07:21 PM

I love the crankset on that Masi

Brilliant site, brilliant craftsmanship. Thanks for the link.

While some of this is quite attractive...and I can DEFINITELY appreciate the craftsmanship...I guess I am just too traditionalist...and feel like it is almost sacrilege to drill through, mill, etc. some of these beautiful pieces of art that we use! Not trying to start an argument...as I said, I find some attractive...but...I like the looks of the originals better!

Oof! That would look tasty on my red Ron! I'm not a huge fan of drillium even when it's done well, but this is extremely tasteful. Very nice.

Great work ..

I love the theme of the brake levers with the clear hoods - well thought out and executed flawlessly (like everything else that comes out of your little workshop, Otis).

Yeah, that's drillium taken to an entirely different level :)

Do you tend to not like it when it's done to vintage parts or just in general?
I love the milled bits and some of the drilled bits, but I have no idea what anything is 'worth'.

Well for a start, if it's not done perfectly I think it looks awful, because the naked eye is pretty good at spotting minor errors in measurement. Beyond that though, it's not to do with being precious about vintage parts as such, but if something is beautiful already, it seems slightly incongruous if it's obvious that someone's tried to add to it. That seat post is so well done and it looks as though it could have been part of an original design, perhaps a limited edition, more ornate version of the "normal" one.

I've got nothing against holes in the right places. The classic vintage Campag brake lever design is one of my favourites.

agreed. bad milling/drilling is a crime against humanity in ALL forms. Not just bikes ;)

So pretty
