Pulled some crap out of the shed...

...and took some pictures. Had to get to the back, so everything on one side came out.

Some of this stuff hasn't seen the light of day for a while, so I thought it'd be fun to share.

Both of these are 1970 Raleigh Twenties - have had one for nearing 15 years now, but picked up the other at the LBS just two years ago (and haven't done much except to put some proper grips on it):

1975 Raleigh Pro Mk.IV:

1961 Schwinn Paramount P12. I still remember when I put those Weinmann hoods on NOS. 10 years later and they look exactly like what I've had to scrape off yard sale finds.

1978 Raleigh Pro Mk.V:

196X Bottecchia wearing "Leo" badging ("Leo the Bottecchia") with a smattering of modern braze-ons and a Cyclart paint job. The build idea with this is to build a faux French (hah!) constructeur-type machine with an IGH. Never found any suitable fenders for it.

Kurt, If that's the crap that came out of the shed, I sure would like to see the "good" stuff. :D
Best, Ben

Most of them are decent survivors. The patina is strong in their family if you look at them up close, particularly the Pro Mk.V and Paramount. Still love 'em though, even though my back questions anything under 60cm at this point.

Just realized I've had the Paramount for 15 or 16 years (earliest dated picture I have is from 2006, but I might have had it since 2005), not 10. How time flies.

Nice family picnic. Love those twenties! My first bike was an early 70s green one, handed down from a sibling.

A wonderful trip down memory lane! :D Check your join date, Kurt, we hit 16 years this fall. :thumb:

How much effort to pump up the tires? :)

I need to clear out the bike room.
fortunately or not I have bikes in three locations.

Quite a bit, that always becomes part of the schedule whenever I go this deep into the cave :)

I wouldn't say no to alternate storage for the Bike Share Museum. It's growing at a speed I can't sustain.

Nice collection!

My brother crashed one of those Twenties when the frame folded while he was riding it BITD!

Wow there's some great stuff stashed there! Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh, that Bottechia Leo really speaks to me!! This is 650b? How wide are those tires?

RustyJames 04-08-21 10:18 PM

Bottechia with an IGH? I like it!!

I've had the pleasure (not) of being punted off the brown one while stopped. Crankset bent and the chainguard took a beating, but I've replaced them since. Can't recall if it was @USAZorro or @BFisher who had the right 44t Raleigh crankset.

I'm building it as 650B; those are Soma Grand Randonneur 42's. Don't let the look fool you though; that's a road bike at its heart. The huge BB drop and slacker seattube might make it look otherwise, but I'd guess that's just Bottecchia coming out of the early 1950's geometries into what we know now from the '60s and '70s.

This is what she would have looked like BITD:

This is from the last session of when I took beauty pics of it. It looks completely wrong without hammered Honjos on it.

Wasn't me on that crankset, but I remember you posting about it.

Love the Paramount, btw.

Gorgeous. Really highlights the beauty of the form this way. I read through that whole original thread - yes, those hammered fenders would be excellent, but just a cherry on top really!
