Any C&V folks doing the Great Cycling Challenge?

Seems a roll call would be in order... I know of at least one other person here...

OK, so RobbieTunes is in the game.

1000 miles in June. OK so far, off to a great start at the Bourbon & Tobacco Tour with C&V folks.

Donated.

BFisher 06-03-19 06:36 PM

In for 300 miles, but hoping to crush that number.

We shall see.

Most of the miles will be split between my Ironman and my Puch.

Ride on.

PilotFishBob 06-03-19 06:37 PM

Also donated. Go get 'em!

Hmm, tempted as I'll do 70% of that on two tours I have planned. Go, Rob!

RobbieTunes 06-04-19 04:51 AM

I rode the first 58 with @PilotFishBob, @speedevil, and @nomadmax. I'll log in how many miles I ride with BF members; that will be neat.

Riding with @iab and @Barrettscv this weekend.

My mother passed from a cancer that generally only affects elderly adults and small children. Like most of her generation, given a preference, she'd say to focus on cancer prevention/cure in the children. Which is what we're up to.

PM me your link, and keep at it! We've got your back.

Having been a cancer patient myself, I understand what money does; it buys research and research buys time. More time means more life and memories with loved ones when time is most precious. More importantly, time allows more money to flow toward research and ultimately a cure. Many patients, because of diagnosis, can only focus on living one day to the next, hoping that next day will bring forth a treatment that will buy more time.

Cancer can sometimes make you feel sorry for yourself; the "Why me, what did I do to deserve this?" syndrome if you will. During those times all I had to do was walk my drug pole down to the floor where the kids were. When I saw those kids in crisis being brave and standing up to it, many knowing full well what their plight was, I felt ashamed of my selfishness. Cancer strikes 1 in 4 people, in reality, it strikes us all because if not us then it's a family member or friend. There wasn't one parent in that hospital that wouldn't take the disease in place of their child, including me. I urge everyone reading this to put yourself in those parent's place for just one moment and consider donating if you can. You're a good man Rob.

Link sent.

I appreciate the support and encourage anybody else who's thinking about it to sign up.

Safe riding, all.

I'm looking forward to the Saturday ride with the C&V crew. The forecast looks ideal.

“The hills are alive...”

...with the sound of Barrettscv bombing past.

Back stories:
Dairyland Dare a few years ago. @iab got us going.

My mother was alive and wanted to help.
She hosted BF members in her house, and helped cook dinner for 25 riders.
I think she enjoyed it more than they did.
She was looking forward to babysitting @elguicho's daughter the next year.
Cancer, 4 weeks later she was gone. Her sister, months later.

My best friend’s sister.
My dad’s friend, who rescued a little girl from a burning house; he went and so did she.

@cehowardGS, RIP.

Still in the game:
@nomadmax, our Jacksonville friend @3speedslow, and others in BF, living with it.

This is a no brainer for me. I’m just another lucky idiot.
