How did you know the correct length for thew spokes and where did you get a spoke cutting machine? Thats a little above and beyond for the average bike guy. lol

Londonsworld 12-27-19 07:00 AM

I did the initial calculations using a digital caliper and plugging them into one of several online calculators. I got the front measurements correct, but fubared the rear. Still don't know how I was off after double and triple checking. LBS had the spoke cutting machine;-)

I wonder what would happen if you plugged your numbers into a couple different online calculators. Different results maybe? Is it possible you didn't mess up but the calculator you used has a bug in it?

Londonsworld 12-28-19 05:02 AM

I have another build I want to get started on once this one is complete (MTB drop bar SS conversion of mid 80's Nishiki Westwood). I will revisit the online calculator(s) again and do some more reading on wheel building.

2old 12-28-19 06:56 AM

Don't know whether you tried the calculator ebikesca, but I've never heard of anyone having problems after using it (but my LBS always gives me the sizes to use and I order spokes from them).

Rear wheel tricks for fun ;-)

The rear is complete! Radial and four cross for fun...

I am sure someone from the group of "cruiser" folks I ride with will notice this. DS is radial laced and strong four cross on the ND.

Rubber is in....

I have put in 500 miles on the Vittoria Street runners with zero issues.

I've just become a fan of the Vittoria brand this year. Reasonable cost, weight and performance.

Entertaining the crazy thought of going tubeless for fun. The MTB folks around here use orange seal vs. Stans. I guess I'll get some gorilla tape later today.

I got sidetracked fixing up several bikes for close friends......My sons bike is back on tap;-)

OldCruiser 02-13-20 09:10 AM

I think it needs some wider tires . Just my opinion.
