How to delete a thread that I started
Is it possible to delete a thread that I started, perhaps by simply deleting the first post? If so, please help me figure out how to do so; when I go to edit my thread, I do not find an option to delete my post, as I normally would.
I was under the impression that it was possible to delete one's own thread - and indeed, recall a heated discussion a couple of years ago after some posters were unhappy that the OP deleted the entire thread. With that, I started a 'dummy' thread to learn how to post a poll. This is the thread I would like to delete: https://www.bikeforums.net/living-ca...7403-test.html |

It is my understanding and experience that you, as OP can delete the first post in your thread and it will automatically delete the entire thread. I've done it many times. It might be broken though. Hope this helps.

Still cannot find the delete option. Here is what I'm seeing (there is nothing helpful when I go to the advanced option):

The contrast case is this, where there is clearly a delete option:

I just deleted an old thread I started a while back using that "delete" button that you have circled in red in your post 5.
|
It's weird that the 'delete' button is not appearing for the thread I started (as in post #4 .) I tried opening the forum in both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer (as well as the usual Firefox), and still no love.

Click the Edit button.
Click Delete. This message will come up in a grey area underneath the message: To delete this message, check the appropriate option below and then click the 'Delete this Message' button. Note: deleting this message will result in the deletion of the entire thread because this is the first post in the thread. Underneath that area Delete Options. Select Delete Message. In the bottom right corner of the grey area is a button that says, Delete This Message. Click that and it's gone. I just created and deleted two threads following these steps. |

Other relevant info.
Browsers tried: Firefox, Pale Moon, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome Forum skin setting: Bikeforums NG Message Editor Interface: Full CK Editor Editing |

This is what I've got. (I also noticed that you were able to create and delete a thread in LCF just a moment ago!) I strongly suspect that there is some setting on my UI that is acting up.

I'll give you the standard IT answer then ... have you deleted your cookies, history, etc. recently? If not it might be time to do that, and then reboot.

i also can't. perhaps the privilege is reserved for Premiums.
That was something else I wondered about. |
This is correct. Only Titanium users can delete their own threads.
|
Oops, well that solves that:o
I had no idea. |
Interesting! Now we know :)

Why allow for the possibility of other people's sometimes valuable info, to be wiped out of existence for God knows what reason(s). An OP editing his OP post to a "." should be enough. |

I have previously posted about such a heated discussion on this Living Car Free Forum, maybe the same one:

You're right, I did start a thread like that.
You're also right that you could not find it. I deleted it. .

I think this is outrageous. You have no right! How were you able to even do that?

I've got to admit I find it very surprising that a thread starter can delete a thread…
To be honest I'm not all that comfortable with the thought that a thread starter can just delete someone's contribution at will… |

Just yesterday, I posted to @wipekitty's preliminary thread to this one, on the Living Car Free Forum: Follow my first link for further discussion.
I honestly have no strong opinions on whether OPs should be allowed to delete their threads. I lean toward yes; but my general attitude is that if I start a thread, I have some kind of obligation to check in on it and keep it on track. Others might think that is a job solely for the mods. |

Anytime you want to clean up your threads ... you can delete them too. You just have to be the thread starter. :)
Saves the mods time and energy when a thread goes off the rails on the third post. Instead of bothering them, just delete the thread! Quick and easy! :D I think the Moderators provide a generally recognized sensibility beyond an OP’s personal standards. Besides, any and all posts keep a thread alive (except those that cause it to be closed):

You do realize that once this is out of the top 5 threads, no one will read it, and after it drops off the first page, it is ancient history. Good luck keeping it active and getting anything useful out of it.
