Peugeot Camargue
 

I think this is a 1989 Peugeot Camargue. The asking price is $50 dollars. I couldn't find much about this bike online but I noticed the top tube was a bit different from the others. It missing the decal on the top tube which I though was interesting since it doesn't look damaged/scratched/worn at that section. It also looks like the top tube says "Nice" on it, but I can't really tell since the picture isn't the best quality. All of the other bikes I looked at had "Camargue" on the top tube. Could this be a customization? What do you all think?

To me it looks decent for $50. It does look like it will need a complete overhaul (hubs, BB, Steerer). From the look of it you will need a new chain (rusted), tires, bar tape, and possibly hood covers. Before buying it I would make sure the seat post and handle bar stem will move and are not seized in the frame.
If you can do this yourself I would go for it. If you are having to pay a bike shop it might be more than it is worth,

I can see the Reynolds 501 tubing decal and the component group does appear to be Shimano Exage Sport LX, so it should be a 1989 Peugeot Nice in the Anthracite colour option. This was a lower mid-range model, 5th in Peugeot's line of 7 road bicycles. and had an MSRP of ~$450 US. At $50 this has potential provided there are no major issues and you can perform an overhaul your self, though be aware that even the cost of consumables (tyres, tubes, cables, brake pads, chain, freewheel, handlebar tape) can quickly add up.

Yes, it says NICE right on the top tube. Its a buy now, study later price around here.

Nice is a city in the south of France. Just put an older saddle. The black rim are really nice and in good condition.

It looks smallish to me, does it fit?

as noted it needs a good deal of elbow grease and maybe some new parts like a cable or two and chain. If you can’t do the work be prepared to spend another $80 to $100+. Is there a bike co-op near you?

+1 for T-Mar's comment. They are actually two different bikes. The Camargue is HLE tubes with a hi-tensile fork and the Nice is 501 with Peugeot's generic cro-mo fork. Both are lugless brazed but the Nice has a, well, nicer gruppo. For the price, if the size is right, it is a good purchase.

It does fit :thumb: my university has a bike shop where you can go and use all their tools etc. whenever things open back up again that's my plan of action. Thank you for your advice!

Thank you so much to everyone that replied! I had no idea that it was actually a Peugeot Nice! I tried googling it before but couldn't find anything about it (probably just didn't look hard enough) so I assumed it was a Camargue since they look so similar. I really appreciate all the replies
