Surly Steamroller Photo Superthread!!!
So there are plenty of other make/model photo superthreads... I figured we could share the Steamrollers. I own one. I love mine. It's arguably one of the best "out of the box" fixed gear bikes on the market for its versatility and quality at its price. Messengers, commuters, casual riders, hipsters and any combination of the aforementioned alike all enjoy them... so lets share the Steamrollers!
Here's mine and my buddy Billys... and a few I really like... Hot bikes. If you don't mind my asking, about how much did you guys pay for them, or how much do you have into the? I'll take a pm if you don't want to post.

I've since sold it (a bit too big of a frame), but here's a few versions of my Steamroller (all the same frame, just different builds/uses along the way):

good thread.

by the way, anyone have any luck flaking off their logo graphics? I noticed my non-drive side steamroller graphic on the top tube had a letter flaked off but no damage to the finish... so I took my thumbnail and chilled off another letter and buffed the area with my shirt and voila, clean shiny frame... so I scraped off the rest of that graphic and its flawless clearcoated paint underneath. Kinda odd but I thought the graphics were clearcoated over and there would be some divot or something where I scraped it off but its perfect. The graphics do look cleared over but like over existing finish. Odd. I may hit the rest of the graphics later.

To get them off really easily use a hair dryer or a lighter or hot water or something. Once you get some heat on them you can scrape them off with an old credit card or something in a few passes.

Decals come off real nice with a hairdryer and a credit card (seems to work best)...also a bit of Goo Gone will make the whole thing smooth and dreamy (with no marks on the frame). |
I had a hard time getting my decals off with the hair dryer and a credit card.
I have only had my steamroller for about 7 months, so maybe they haven't gotten weaker or whatever? I eventually used the round shaft of a screwdriver and rubbed the decals off by breaking them apart. It worked really well. Then it was just a matter of wiping off the bits of flaky white and the glue gunk. I used wd40 to get all of it off. Mine is still all stock or I would have posted a pic. I am saving up for a brooks and leather handlebar tape. I saw roadfix's bike a few months ago in a picture and have been wanting to copy it since. That is a sweet bike. |

i like that "i shoot people" sticker.

if I wasn't too poor to build another bike, i'd totally build up steamroller with some fat knobbies and ride it on trails and snow. Hopefully by the time i'm not a poor college student i can do that.
