Protein Powder

I am looking for a FLAVOR FREE, NON SOY, protein powder. I used to use one that had about 32 grams of protein per serving but I cannot find it anymore. If it makes any difference I mix it with my rice milk for my cereal so that I can have protein for breakfast when I don't want to eat yogurt. Thanks.

The type of protein you use definitely makes a difference. I would say hemp, but hemp has a flavor all its own.
What you want is a high quality, cold processed, milk based protein. If you feel like, do some research on the difference between whey isolate and whey concentrate. All I will say is there is some research showing that whey concentrate preferable to isolate, cold processed preferable to heat treated, and grass fed/organic preferable to corn fed/factory farmed.
Heres one http://www.defensenutrition.com/defe...grass_fed_cows
Heres a blend that seems pretty versatile if you dont want to go searching for the very best of the best: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/any.html
Hope that helped.

Why do you need extra protein? If you eat a sufficient diet you should get more then enough. Take this into consideration, mothers milk only contains 6% protein and babies protein needs are higher then adults. full grown adults typically need 2-5% protein

WTH do you come up with this stuff?
2%? Based on a 2000 calorie/day diet, that's 40 calories from protein. That equates to approx. 10 grams of protein per day. Your body won't be able to maintain itself on such.....protein is used by the immune system, the endocrine glands, and muscle cells. I have never heard anyone suggest less then 70 gms per day of portien, and that's for a sedentary individual.

5% would get you to 100 calories, or 25 gms/day.....still sorely lacking.

Really? Never? The US RDA suggests 10-15 percent of calories, so for a 2000 calorie diet, that would be 50-75 grams. Which sounds quite sufficient for a normal person. The World Health Organization recommends .45 grams per kilo of "ideal body weight"--i.e., your blubber does not need protein.

True Protein

They have a wide variety of protein supplements to choose from, including non-flavored whey protein. In addition, you have a choice filtering method and can mix your own blend of supplements. The price point is also among the best.

I have yet to meet an RD (been to several since I'm a diabetic) that has suggested going less then 70gms/day. I imagine if I was 5 ft tall and weighed 120lbs, 50 may be in range, but that's not the middle of the bell curve, now is it?

here's a handy little calculator you can use.
http://www.healthcalculators.org/cal...rs/protein.asp

just for giggles, I entered a 69y.o. male 5'2" (smallest size it would accept) and sedentary lifestyle. 66gms/day of protein.

Calm down everyone! I do not eat meat so I try to grab protein whenever I can. Thank you Stan and Lamp-Shade for the suggestions. I will look into both.

Basic reasoning and scientific evidence. The gov only recommends .8g per kg of body weight a day and even that is too high. Do you think you need more protein than a growing baby?

useful information...if the OP was a baby. :roflmao2: Check your Target cause sometimes they carry the flavorless whey protein for cheap.

and yet the scientific evidence points to .8g per kg or even some studies suggest 1.2g/kg for atheletes.

late, the one you suggests looks like it has plenty of protein but it also has plenty of cholesterol and saturated fat. 40% of its calories comes from fat. That's a little more than I want. I appreciate your response though.

Try ProteinFactory.com
They have several soy free proteins
Rice Protein Concentrate
Heliogen Casein
Membrane Micellar Casein
Victoria Milk Protein
Vitellogen Whey Protein Concentrate

520 Hydrolyzed Whey
Vapofiltration Whole Egg

I would recommend one of the proteins in bold to put in your breakfast. If you have more questions contact the company president Alex Rogers for advice.

hemprider 11-10-09 08:55 AM

Casein is the most cancerous protein of them all i would highly recommend against those products

This agrees with what I said.

I hope their source is at least as good as their astrology.

This recommends a little more for people training for triathalons. Which, I might have to admit, might increase your protein needs a bit more than normal.

But really, unless you are planning to really bulk up, you just don't need huge amounts of protein.

fishermba2004 11-10-09 10:38 AM

Try www.bodybuilding.com

They have hundreds of brands for sale and better prices than I've found anywhere else.

It seems you and Modo have literally no clue how the human body works.

Do you realize that babies are growing far more then an adult and at a very rapid pace? What don't you understand about that? Why is it that humans only need 6% in the most progressive growth stage of there whole life (infancy) yet some how we need more when we're already developed and full grown?

It makes absolutely no sense.

shona 11-10-09 11:02 AM

peace you guys

Please either go read up on nutritional requirements, or STFU, cause you are giving truly dangerous advice. 6% of a 2000 Cal/day diet would be 120 Cals in protein. That's 30 gms/day of protein. That won't even support your immune system, let alone your hormonal requirements or cellular rebuilding functions. Also, that 6% you are throwing out is not the nutritive content. Milk contains a ton of water....the nutrition is not in the water.

hemprider 11-10-09 12:42 PM

If its so dangerous how am i not dead? I think the advice your giving is dangerous. Most people get way too much protein and that is causing a lot of diseases.

Wtf does this even mean? If mothers milk contains more then 6% protein how much does it contain?

This is not supported by any scientific evidence and you probably just made it up. In the medical community there is not even a word for protein deficiency because it doesn't exist.

Because I guarantee you are getting more then 30gms or protein/day in your diet.

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/d...-products/74/2
Milk:
1 8oz serving
102 Calories
Protein 8g

8 grams of protein = 32 Calories.....32/102 = 31.37%
hell of a lot more then 6%.

While its true that human milk has a lower protein content then cows milk, most humans are off breast milk by 2 yrs of age. There's a reason for that. We need more protein and by that age, are able to handle the digestion of it.

I can guarantee i don't.

Are you trying to somehow compare cow's milk to human milk? Cows grow way faster then humans and therefore require more protein and hormones.

The reason they stop breast feeding at 2 years of age is because that's when they have teeth and are able to eat. We don't need more protein after that age again this is something you completely fabricated or you took the advice of the meat and milk industry.

I get mine at the grocery store. I think it is EAS Whey Protein. 25g per scoop. I get the vanilla but can mix it with anything - I prefer to mix it with fruit juice.
