1980s Canadian Raleigh Competition

Looks like an early 80s Canadian model Raleigh Competition. Tubular tires or just flat clinchers?

Looks closer to a 22.5" to 23.5" but not sure. I am wondering if it is worth the drive. It certainly has less cachet for me than the 70s models with campagnolo /huret dropouts and running gear.

Any thoughts?

Is it Canadian built? The tubing sticker says built by Carlton Worksop England. I'm not saying you're wrong since I don't know anything about Canadian built Raleighs but the sticker is odd.

The Huret dropouts are bit of a pain in any case.

A lot depends on the size, price, and "need." It sounds as if you don't really think you need this particular N plus 1 which is why you are waffling on it. I'd be tempted if the price were right but then I'd like to own an upper end Raleigh (or British bike).

OEM spec was tubulars and that is what these appear to be. Top of the line model after Raleigh Canada dropped the Professional.

No, he means originally sold in Canada. (And presumably resold, since he is in BC.:))

Narhay -

British built Raleigh exported to Canada. Built by Carlton at Worksop. I just bought one which I have now moved on. Dropouts are forged Vitus and take conventional derailleur attachments. The frameset workmanship is outstanding for a production bike. The one you show has all its original kit and mine did not making it too pricey to restore. Nice bike, though.
