Carbon Frame Repair

Helping a friend repair.

2014 RIDLEY X-Fire CX Bike Chainstay damaged taking wheel on & off.

Tips or links on how to repair properly? Use Carbon Matt kit? Simply fill in with epoxy?

Moving forward after repair any ideas on how to help prevent damage in future (besides "being careful"). My idea was to wrap small cassette rings with electric tape,,,thinking about it, it may get weird with chain going on small rings when installing rear wheel.

The chainstay is really wide (none of my other bikes are that wide, including my 2010 Ridley X-Fire) to the inside of where rear wheel mounts up - between trying to line up disc in caliper and getting wheel into dropout its pretty challenging. I couldn't see doing wheel replacement quickly in a CX race with out damaging frame again. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1e3c9b0b19.jpg

I can't see that happening from taking the wheel on & off.

Chainsuck or the RD hitting something & being forced upward are my guesses.

Clean up & add some epoxy IMO.

That is what I use on my mtn bike on areas that take a lot of abuse.

I think you're cool here with some 2 part epoxy and then some white touch-up paint.

I'd hate to see the bike after you remove the BB! ;)

JB weld is Epoxy with aluminum powder in the resin,

+ you can also mix in a white pigment powder in the resin , then stir in the catalyst....
then it will be the touch up color

maybe affix a piece of metal there?

.....

What's your concern about removing the BB?
