Does it have a three or four digit date code stamped on the back?

I’m not 100% sure. I was just reading that Sachs liked to stamp date codes on the back side.

This is from a Trek 720, I believe 1985 was the only year this derailleur was used.

just to note, trek used the duopar in atleast '82, also
|
This might have been an "upgrade." I think Trek used the steel version, not the ti one, on its bikes but perhaps I'm mistaken. I used one--the steel version--on a cross country tour in '97. It worked great and handles a ridiculous amount of chain. Some people love it, others hate it but I thought it works well.

The 720 (728) always came with the Ti version. |

The Duopars used prior to 84 on the 720 would have been marked as "Huret" not with the "Sachs*Huret" logo.
The 720 (728) always came with the Ti version. I did not know that the 728 came stock with the Ti version of the duopar; very cool. |

jameskm if you look four posts up from this one, you'll have your answer. These pop up fairly frequently on eBay.
