First Metric Century

1 Attachment(s)
I rode my first Metric century on Sunday. My longest ride prior was 38mi. There was a very strong wind from the East all day. I rode by myself most of the time and overcame several obstacles including a flat at mile 40. The ride was very well supported and it was a great learning experience for me as I have never ridden in an organized event before. I'm still training for a 100mi century in a few months. I have recovered and now have more work to do.

WOW that is a flat ride! Congrats on the first metric!

Well done! If you were able to complete 100 kms and feel OK afterwards, 160 kms is totally doable.

Good for you! I've only done one metric century with a friend several years ago, I recall being completely destroyed afterward. I should try for another one of these weekends.

I wish I had terrain that flat around here!

Nice job! Just keep at it; you should be able to accomplish 100 miles(or more!).
I started riding on the weekends with a local club; so my training wasn't so boring.
Chose a flat event for my first century. Good decision on my part; I was exhausted at the end. :)

Way to go!

A hundred and eighty four feet. That boggles my mind.

Great job Bobby! Did my first metric century about 2 months ago. Only 1650 ft of elevation but I averaged a bit over 16 mph. I only do solo rides & I do 50+ mile rides about twice a month, but that extra 10 miles or so was tough! Keep up the good work!

Had a bloke tell me recently that if you can do 100 km, you can do 200 because the difference is just stubbornness.

Still trying to decide if I believe him :foo:

Good job on the century. Feels nice doesn't it... in hindsight :D

Yea, there is 90’ bridge that I went over twice.

Very nice accomplishment, especial bucking those winds. Some drafting and 100 miles would be a piece of cake.

Can totally relate with that kind of windy riding. I got in 102.28 miles yesterday with 171' over here across the Alley and up a bit, Rotonda West.

That's a nice area for riding. We have terrible traffic congestion over here to the east. A1A is pretty much your only option during the week if you don't want to get run down. On the weekends, the options open a little if you get out early.

Congratulations! I did my first one a week ago, to finish up the warm season on a high note. Feels good to have that milestone under the belt doesn't it! I'm impressed that you went right from 38 miles to over 62. I had ridden 40+ miles a number of times and then 56 miles two weeks prior.

Congrats to 55murray and liddite_68 on your century rides. It is an accomplishment that you should be very proud of. I remember my first century and the feeling of returning to the start point made the hard work worth every drop of sweat. Some folks may think we're crazy to do rides like this, but I just consider the source and carry on. :)

jefnvk 10-27-17 10:20 AM

Congrats! My first was a few months ago, I tacked 9 miles onto the end of a 53 mile group ride just to hit it. Done a few more since, it becomes addictive :thumb:
