Rear rack suggestions
I have acquired a Mongoose Dolomite and it has little to no rack bosses for rear rack attachment. What rear rack would fit this frame without modification (p.s. I would intend to zip tie a rear fender under the top deck of any rear rack I acquire.
thanks, Slothead Tom |
Better people may reply, but looks like a tough sale unless you go with a light seat post rack....

Presently using a rack that clamps on the seat post. it can hold up to 22lbs. No complaints

Marcus can you PM me with a link to the rack that clamps to the seatpost? Thanks.

If you are still looking, I fit a Filzer PR 4 on my Fatboy.
https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5022-4...r-Pannier-Rack To mount a rack without eyelets you can use P clamps and a seat post clamp that has eyelets on it. https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5022-4...Rack-Parts-Kit https://www.thebikeshop.com/product/...YaAoh3EALw_wcB https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...30f3eda9_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...53e18ca4_b.jpg |
I used a rack with p-clamps at the top for many decades. Given that many racks have sheet metal mounts at the top, it seems like that is clearly adequate. I have always wondered about p-clamps at the dropout though.

But I would use a P clamp to hold the rack stay beside the frame, so that the impact is borne by the clamp and not the frame tubing itself. This is how the traditional M5 bolt holds most racks systems to the frame at the dropout area and the front fork. Here is a simple drawing to illustrate - I am not an draftsman :) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...29544cc7_b.jpg |
MEC Filzer PR4 rack mounted on 2017 Felt DD70. Some racked come with clamps for stays. Some bending mods were required.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...74d8264256.jpg
