Dealing With Hand/Foot Numbness

Hands go a little numb when riding platforms and when using clipless pedals over long distances 20+ mile gravel rides my toes begin to go numb. Toes are fine on my platform pedals though.

Any advice?

I would say your shoes need to be adjusted.

My feet used to go a bit numb with bike shoes that were too tight and that restricted circulation. Wider shoes solved that problem. My hands also used to go numb until I moved the saddle back. This moves the center of gravity back and unloads some weight off the hands. It will take a while of continual experimenting until you get it all right. Don't give up. It all works out in the end.

This

It's counter intuitive but it really works.

You can also move the seat back TOO far, so that you are leaning forward and supporting weight on the bars too much. It's a delicate balance and an inch back and forth on the saddle make a surprisingly large difference.

Also think about different grips or bar ends that give you alternate hand position options on a long trip.

problem with clipless pedal shoes, is that if they were comfortable

you might be as likely to pull your foot out of the shoe as get it to release from the pedals..

Slide your cleats back to move your toes forward to take pressure off of them.

1. Just go with flats with pins plus flat five ten bike shoes. That's what I did, has worked well for me.
2. Or get wider clipless shoes.
3. My comfort in riding improved noticeably when I built up some core strength with Limber 11:
4. For the hand numbness a new full carbon bike. :D
