Day 1 Natchez Trace Parkway with Pics
Day 1 of Natchez Trace Parkway ride with my wife sagging, of course!
91 miles and 5000’ of hills from Nashville south to Collinwood, TN. Terrific pavement, low traffic and a little tailwind today. Temperatures stayed in the 40’s with thick clouds until around noon but quickly warmed to the 60’s after the sun made its appearance. A lot more stopping than a normal ride checking out historic markers. My wife and I even walked a section of the old Natchez Trace Trail together for a short piece. We just happened to show up at the trailhead at the same time. Between my wife and I we saw a lot of different wildlife, much more than usual. Deer, turkey, opossum, groundhog, squirrels and even a fox. Tomorrow we do it again as its about 100 miles to Tupelo. Yesterday the weather forecast was perfect for the entire 5 day 450 mile trip. Now Friday looks really wet with 20+ mph winds due to the system in the gulf. Ugh. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5382f91b9.jpeg Near the start, coolish temperatures https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5c16350b3.jpeg Selfie on the road https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...533c1eb1a.jpeg The trail walk we did together https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...992102fd6.jpeg Walking the trail https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f9c776b3d.jpeg Lewis is buried here https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f545aa2e1.jpeg Soybean field https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4c772723f.jpeg Just 400 more miles to go! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...475932098.jpeg Nice descent after the sun finally came out https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9c37896ca.jpeg Nice park, we ate PB&J sandwiches and other snacks for lunch |

Awesome, good for you! Looks like great riding territory

Awesome. I keep saying I'm gonna do the 444 miles of it one day. Hope that Hurricane Delta doesn't bring too much rain up toward you.
Maybe we will pass each other somewhere between mile marker 100 and 125. I've been riding that lately to get my pace right for the Century ride Saturday since it's routes are much less grades than my normal rides. |
Brings back many fond memories of the Natchez. Road it with my buddy Pete in 1977. Great experience, and only one hill that I remember.
