Garmin Vector/Exustar pedal body swap
 

The Garmin Vector (1 and 2) pedal body is based on the Exustar PR2 road pedal, but a new pedal body costs more than double what the PR2 goes for.

It seems like you might be able to simply use the exustar body. They have the same fixing nut and are visually identical.

Has anybody tried this? Did it work?

It might be that the placing and diameter of bearings is completely different inside to accomodate the electronics. Or it might not.

I took the plunge, bought exustar pedals and made the swap. It didn't work. The Garmin spindle in fact has a larger diameter. I also screwed up the exustar pedals, so those are now useless. Learn from my mistake and don't try this, it's a waste of time. What works is buying a new Garmin pedal body. Do that if your old vector pedals are getting loose with age, it works great.

Was this just to save the little more cost of a re-build kit for the Garmin Vector pedals? Or was there something wrong with them that re-greasing and rebuilding won't do?

This sounds exactly like the kind of thing I would do, especially the screwing up the new pedals part.

A year later, the pedal body swap was perfect. That's the way to go. *WAY* less than the cost of new pedals.

That's great! Can you explain a little more how you handled it? What pedals did you use now? Were there any difficulties? Very interesting. Original Vector pedal bodies are hard to get anymore.
