Wald Baskets

I love my Wald basket! Anyone else have a Wald basket on their bike? (Pictures please.)

I've got a Wald 585 basket on my commuter, held to the side of the rack by hose clamps. Some innertube rubber between the basket and each clamp reduces rattling and loosening. It's lasted 20 years so far. Most bikes can accommodate this basket, but you may have to set it back in order to avoid heel strike, depending on your bike geometry.

And they're cheap, one of the best bargains in all of cycling.

I have Wald 582 Folding baskets on my MTB-based commuter. It's my #2 commuter now, but my #1 for groceries, carrying stuff and snow. Here they are open and folded.

two folders on the back of the commuter.

I've had folding baskets on my Bridgestone MB-1 commuter for quite a few years. They're heavy and they do rattle a bit but have become an indispensable addition to the bike. I no longer have the front rack on the bike due to the increased carrying at the rear.

On my Rivendell, larger Wald on Porteur rack

Didn't need the porteur rack so I lightened the load and went with a Nitto front rack.

Even this basket was more than I needed so I went with a smaller basket, which right now suits my needs better.

I've been considering an inexpensive single speed to run errands and leave locked up during the day at the store. And I wouldn't mind taking it on the train during rush hour. That looks like the Nashbar Cyclocross single speed bike which is can be had for about $300 on sale.

How do you like it? I'm curious about weight without all of the extras.

I wish it came in other colors. But that's a great looking commuter you've got there!

a1penguin...yes that's my Nashbar SSCX. I think it weighs around 25 lbs as delivered. Came with drops but I put on those townie bars due to back issues. It's great if you have multiple surfaces to commute on like city streets then light gravel trails. The Kenda small block 8 tires are really nice. With the Wald basket, heavy duty back rack and coffee holder it weighs enough to be a nice workout.:)

Got a little beat up when the bike valet at a hockey game knocked it over :/ but it's still a great basket. I fit my laptop bag in it when I need to bring it home, a few bags of groceries, beer, and it never fails, someone elses sweatshirt or jacket they brought along to ride to the bar and then got too hot.

From the mid 1960's. My Grandparent's gave me the Wald baskets for my birthday.
I wish I still had that bike...

This is an old pic, but one of my favorites! I am actually trying to decide which size Wald basket to go on my current hybrid.

Obviously this is a staged pic and not a recommended way to carry a young child:lol:

I think this was a Wald basket upfront; it was 34 years ago.

I used laundry room shelving to construct lids for mine. When closed, it makes a big, sturdy platform on top of the baskets. This is a perfect place to bungee large bags of dog food and toilet paper on grocery runs.
