Strava / veloviewer amusement
For those of you who use strava, you should also check out veloviewer - it pulls data from strava and presents it in different (and interesting) ways. That little sig image below is from veloviewer.
Anyway, one of the things they do is tell you if your time has improved on any segments (which it sometimes does without even riding it) and whether it's gotten worse. I did two rides today, one at 4 am and one just now at 4 pm and in the intervening 12 hours, I apparently did worse on SEVENTY ONE segments. (see below for the gory, uninteresting details). 12 hours! Anyway, one of the things I enjoy about veloviewer is the summary tab - it has a graph of your mileage progress for the year, and for me at least it shows the last two years as well. It's pretty slick. Anyway, check it out - it does a lot of interesting stuff with your ride data and it's fun to poke around in there. Don't be shocked by the terrible numbers below, there are segments around here that have well over 5,000 riders. It doesn't make me feel better about being #2000 but maybe if I keep repeating it to myself. From 66th to 67th on "Orange to Imperial ß" From 81st to 82nd on "SART- Downey to Seal Beach & Back" From 115th to 118th on "Whittier to Rivers End Cafe" From 119th to 120th on "Rose Drive from Imperial" From 129th to 130th on "Hewes Bike Trail" From 176th to 177th on "Birch Street Sprint" From 175th to 180th on "Whittier Blvd to Slauson on SGRT" From 186th to 193rd on "Whittier to Seal Beach Marina " From 228th to 236th on "LA2SD 605 to Seal Beach TT" From 239th to 240th on "Madison from Andalusia to La Hacienda" From 260th to 262nd on "Santa Ana River Trail Climb" From 281st to 285th on "SGRT Bridge to Rivers End Cafe" From 194th to 329th on "Goodwin Road Climb" From 332nd to 333rd on "YRP To HB and Back to YRP" From 337th to 341st on "Tunrbull East Bump Up" From 365th to 371st on "SGRT Sprint" From 334th to 431st on "7th Street Climb" From 431st to 432nd on "SGRBT Sprint" From 439th to 440th on "River Trail Imperial to Weir" From 485th to 496th on "Shut Up Legs TT" From 539th to 546th on "Honda to PCH" From 545th to 548th on "Irz Carson Group Going Home" From 582nd to 586th on "1st to bench" From 582nd to 589th on "South Fire Station to PCH" From 585th to 592nd on "SART Chapman to Hamilton" From 598th to 605th on "SA River Trail west" From 604th to 610th on "Edinger / PCH TT" From 626th to 632nd on "South Street to Del Amo" From 655th to 658th on "Sk8 drop" From 662nd to 670th on "No More Underpasses Until The Bridge" From 677th to 678th on "Dinah Shore (Cathedral Canyon to Crosley)" From 680th to 682nd on "PCH to Honda Center via SART" From 682nd to 683rd on "PCH north entrance to Katella" From 681st to 689th on "Slater to woden bridge" From 696th to 706th on "Slauson to Santa Fe Spring Park" From 709th to 720th on "Carson to PCH" From 718th to 722nd on "Oh You Fancy TT" From 743rd to 746th on "2nd bridge to 3rd bridge" From 755th to 756th on "Bridge to Waterfall" From 775th to 776th on "2PM Head Wind Warm up :)" From 785th to 786th on "East River Trail/La Palma" From 786th to 787th on "Car Wash to Gypsum" From 813th to 820th on "uphill sprint" From 847th to 858th on "Willow - Bridge" From 862nd to 870th on "2nd to 1st bridge" From 896th to 897th on "Bridge to Willow" From 894th to 903rd on "frst bridge to bus stop " From 942nd to 956th on "Riverbed Sprint" From 947th to 957th on "SART to La Palma Finishing Climb" From 962nd to 965th on "The "Mines" Sprint !" Ha, that's fun!
<start playing Glory Days> It pulled up my best ever segment 22 miles @20 MPH with 767' of climbing. </end Glory Days> Reminds me how bad I suck currently :( But Velo Viewer is fun, thanks for sharing! |
I really like Veloviewer -- I picked it up from someone's .sig here, I think. The summary info is nice, but I /really/ like the 3D segment viewer. The Veloviewer score is nice, since it's a 'semi-independent' way of comparing people who ride utterly different areas, and is a good measure of progress for me!
Also, since I've apparently lost the ability to compare myself and the segment leader or another rider in Strava (or at least, can't find it which counts as the same), the Veloviewer <-> race shape integration is nice for me having a clue about where I am sucking so bad. |
my cycling carrier in one snip...somehow managed a bunch of red squares at the end of 2013:rolleyes:

I'm really jealous!!! and you have almost double my miles already too:thumb: |
My natural status is very chaotic and unpredictable (ask my wife) but I know that if i am to continue riding it has to be striclty scheduled as it would be way too easy to "fall off the wagon"

It's the lower the better right? |

Ha, 27.87 here, top that!
It's the lower the better right? Case in point - some woman in my area has a time about 10 seconds better than my wife, who is now determined to beat her on that segment. I tried explaining that the particular woman in question rides about 800 miles a month and was recently in the California state road race championships... it fell on deaf ears. LOL. |
What a great site! But... all it did was validate my sucktitude, so I don't think I'm going to post my results here. :)

Hey, another cool new feature: they put time, distance and elevation "awards" between the score and the distance portion.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=370840 |
Well, I noticed that and was feeling all good about myself until you posted yours and I realized the award is actually a gold star. I thought I was doing well with all my white stars. THANKS! :notamused:

Just out of curiosity, do they have a 20 minute award? :innocent: |
So what does the VV score say? Is it a percentage expression, like a 33.58 means your ranking is better than 33.58% of the riders on that segment?

[h=3]VeloViewer Score[/h] Your VeloViewer score is a way to compare yourself against your peers. It is the average segment position score from your top 25% (max 100) of non-downhill segment. More detail:
