Avoiding the Cold Weather Road Cycling?
Anyone else plan on escaping the cold weather for the winter so that they can cycle in the nice warm sun and heat..? Yup you guessed it's its just about that time to be heading off to Sunny Sri lanka for the fall and winter months. Staying a bit longer this year to the tune of 6 months..Back mid April..! Taking my Pinarello Dogma F8 along this time and that should make me good on bikes in Sri Lanka.... Looking forward to some tough brutal humid rides this trip. Great to be in decent shape and able to do these kind of things..:)

Last year we headed down to the desert for December/Jan but this year we are not. Will stick it out and harden up in the cold/rain/snow. |
Not a bad way to spend the winter, enjoy!!
Luckily it doesn't get crazy cold here, so I'll be layering up and riding through the winter, unless there's ice, which is typically only a couple of days. :thumb: |

Does it really say "Froomey" on your bike? :foo:

Ditto. As a new cycler, this will be my first winter riding (but I went through several winters running so I think I understand the deal). Like running, I assume the "dress for mile 6" is good advice for biking (don't want to be warm when you start or you will be way too hot during your ride).

I'll be skiing.

Another runner turned cyclist. One of my best rides EVER, was in the winter in pouring rain. I joined a racing club and one Sunday ride the only people to show were the club president and myself. We did a longer, harder ride than typical, so cold my power bar was frozen. I was a novice and totally intimidated, but ended up loving every minute.

Oh yea, when it gets cold I just hop over to a nice beautiful location to bike, take in the views, and enjoy myself for the winter months. Oh wait, I have a full time location based job and need to pay rent... Never mind, staying in WI and Zwifting away.

thinking about having 2 bikes w/ studs this winter. see you on the flip side

12 months of cycling in the SF Bay Area. The worst we have to contend with is the occasional hard rain.

Not sure bout typical but these lagoon prawns were more then 1.25 lbs each.. These in Sri Lanka are "NOT TYPICAL" as I can speak from 45 years worth of them..:) |
Getting all packed up as I am already way over my authorized luggage allowance and weight limit.. You can never have to much back up supplies and equipment while overseas..

bring on the snow. Time to pull out the splitboard
|
I won’t be escaping to anywhere warm but I’ll be mounting my studded tires and Bar Mitts.
|
Already did my first ride in freezing temps yesterday. The snow and crappy weather is another season to play in...and all the idiots and mopeds are off the MUPs and bike-trails. Fall/winter is the best season for that kind of riding, and the city keeps them fairly clear too.

I am looking into doing a bike tour over the Christmas/New Year holidays. Nothing as exotic as Sri Lanka. Looked into New Zealand, but too many dollars and too much travel time. I drive a school bus and this year the break is a total of 16 days. I really do not mind riding if it is above freezing, of course, that is also wind dependent.
|
And miss all this awesome skiing?
|
Hate to rain on your bragfest, but I would have a hard time boasting about riding my Pinarello Dogma in Sri Lanka and eating jumbo shrimp. Maybe its just me but I would feel self conscious....
