Do I need a Jamis Dragonslayer?
 

I would like a steel-framed mountain bike with + tires, perhaps even 26+ tires, which is an option.

Anyone have one of these, or have experience with them? How is the frame? Do you miss full-suspension?

I would tend to opt for a 27.5+ bike over 26+. 26 size tires are getting pretty limited, (except for truly fat bike tires), where as with a 27.5+ bike you've got the full range of 27.5 & 29er tires.
Sweet looking bike though. I'd be a little concerned about the overall weight at 31 lbs it's not a feather weight.

Jamis Dragonslayer is a great bike. I would also only be looking at 27.5+. In fact, I don't even know where to get 26+ tires. Also take a look at the Specialized Fuse. Trek has a new 27.5+ hard tail coming out this year called the Roscoe.

It was on my short list for my last bike purchase but I went 29+ instead. I still lust after the Dragonslayer though. I think it's a great bike.

Resurrecting the thread because I'm looking at a 2019... Seems like a good deal. Has anyone gained personal experience? One big advantage of this bike is that the local Jamis dealer is my choice for top shop. I don't currently own a Jamis, but these guys did a super (and reasonably priced) rebuild on my 1973 Raleigh Supercourse.
Why the Dragonslayer. 1. Jonesing for a new bike. 2. Dreams of bike touring. 3. Deciding I probably shouldn't buy an electric bike even though that's where the jones started.

Bought the 2018 Dragonslayer Pro from Jenson on closeout. I think the bike is wonderful. The biggest negative is the 26 inch tires. Surley is the place I have found the 3" tires for sale. There are quite a few 2.75-2.95 elsewhere. The cushy ride is sweet. I like the 1x11 gearing. It is a quick bike. Very easy to ride and is very comfortable.

I also bought a 2018 closeout from Jenson. This was my first mountain bike so my experience is limited. The price was to good to pass up even with the 26+ tires. So far I love the bike!

I have found some replacement tires and bought 2 spares and 2 more coming in this week. Universal cycles has some in stock.

My only issue so far is the seat post clamp does not like my weight. LOL However, Friday's ride was the first time it didn't slip down on me. I was ready to buy a Salsa Lip-lock to fix the issue. We will see if today's ride has solved the problem.

I think we discussed your seat post problem in another thread. I finally got my dropper post taken care of. On the second visit to the dropper company, they either replaced or repaired the dropper post. It has worked very well since.

I wound up getting an Advocate Seldom Seen frame and building it up. 27.5 x 2.8" tires. (I couldn't find anywhere to buy the Jamis, but I did see it at the Sea Otter.)
