Bar Ends? I know it's a touchy subject
So I was curious what the thoughts are about bar ends. Not the ones that stick out as much as the ones that angle up. Does anyone have them and will I be looked at weird by people if I put them on?

Look weird not at all! A lot of people have them, tons of choices. Just need to decide what type you want.
|
Why would you be looked at weird?
I don't think this is a touchy subject. I had GP3's for a while https://www.rei.com/product/884446/e...andlebar-grips and loved the bar ends but hated the grips that were a part of them so I took them off and am searching for something different as we speak. Having bar ends gives you a nice alternate grip point to keep your hands form getting numb. And it works really well too. The simplest thing of rotating your wrist 90 degrees for a grip fro a a mile does wonders to help stave of numbness. Anyone who complains that you have bar ens on your bike because you like them needs to seriously re-evaluate their life. |
This is the best combo I've found so far. I wonder every day what weird is.

It's certainly not as touchy a subject as suspension!
I would say that most people mount bar ends on the outside of the grips. I keep my bar ends on the very outside of the handlebar. Here's a picture of them on my Roam: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/851/4...86636849_b.jpg roamcreek3 by jnjadcock, on Flickr I find them most useful for various hand positions and for leverage when standing up to climb. |

ok so when they put them on they will go on the inside? Is that normal? If you have a wide handlebar like I do(680mm), having bar ends at the end doesn't work very well, plus as I have a mirror on one side of my handlebars, they get in the way if I am also trying to grip bar ends. Bar ends in the middle FOR THE WIN!!! :p |

After trying many, many, many, others, over lots of years - I have settled on one that I feel is far superior to others. Smallish, unobtrusive, comfortable, nylonish material (no wrap), and relatively inexpensive.
Specialized P2 Overendz Barends https://www.specialized.com/us/en/p2...=219373-130805 I gave all my others away, and put these on all my (and children, grandchildren) straight bar bikes. |

My Sirrus came with bar ends, but I never use them. I considered removing them, but I liked the look. I may consider the placement "sail" uses, and if I find it aids my riding, I won't care how it looks -at least not to anyone else.

Thanks much, Sal. Found and ordered a pair from Amazon and I'm going to try them.

There are so many ways you can do bar ends, and they all make the bike unique and yours! |
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...673de8003.jpeg Got the Bontragers installed today, love them!! |
Two of my bikes have Ergon GP3, which I find very comfortable. Just large enough for the thumb and a couple fingers.
Wouldn't want to ride w/o them now. |

I've got Ergon GP5's . Love em. Tried Gp3's but they weren't big enough for me.
